    Could they get married?

I would think that even if Catholics were to have women priests, they would still have to do away with clerical celibacy if they were going to have married women priests. So even from the Catholic side, this seems unlikely. But within Orthodoxy, a person cannot even be a candidate for ordination...

Are there any Female Saints from the Americas?

I'm curious how you heard of her. I'm friends with several people who knew her, but I didn't realize her reputation had spread that far.

    Icon of the Good Samaritan

I don't get the impression it's supposed to be the good Samaritan. The inscription says Merciful Lord, and it looks like he's bringing a man who is dead (in sin) to the waters of baptism.

    Orthodox saints names

Found St. Abban of Kilabban (650) (Celtic & British). On March 29 (16) on a ROCOR calendar. That was the only one I could find in the ROCOR calendar app I use, but I might have missed some. I have painted an icon of Saint Owen, however.

    Fr Tom Hopko and Darwin

I finally got through all of the podcasts in the series. I find Father Tom difficult to listen to (largely because of his stream of consciousness musings...) but for the most part agreed with much of what he said. I think when it comes to Father Seraphim Rose, one should understand that Father...

A critique of an explanation about iconography

And yet, they had already built a house for the Lord in the tabernacle (which had images in it of course) and the Lord's glory came and dwelt in that tabernacle as a foreshadowing of the Incarnation: "the Word was made flesh, and dwelt (tabernacled) among us. And the Lord still directs and...

    Is the Orthodox church Infallible?

I would argue that unchanging things can be true or untrue, but they can't be fallible or infallible. Fallibility speaks to what will occur, not what already is. It is the ability to fail or falter, not the state of having failed.

    Is the Orthodox church Infallible?

I generally think of infallibility and inerrancy as western concepts that have limited use in speaking about the Church. Implied in the terms themselves is the notion that there is a mechanism which keeps things from going wrong. So whether that is a special grace given to the Pope, or the...

    Random icon question

Of course. They're just marketing it for weddings because the couple being married should have a set of Christ and the Theotokos icons.

Fair mandatory tax/fee for parish priest to perform baptism or wedding?

This is such a complicated issue to address. Some priests are paid full-time salaries, and some are paid nothing or are even the chief support for the parish's finances. Some parishes are full of tithing members, and some have mostly non-contributing members. I don't like mandatory anything...

Food cravings during the great Fast

Just in the last few days I've started craving fish. I don't really like fish. It takes me back to the days of my wife's pregnancy cravings...

    Lazarus Saturday

If you catch a fish on Lazarus Saturday to cook for Palm Sunday and it has a roe sac what else would you do? It is on the calendar as a caviar day in the Russian tradition.
