  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Why we reject the Council of Chalcedon ?

The whole mess seems to have been a combination of poor interpreters and power-struggle between the Greek and the Copts. If we now accept that the unfortunate choice of words at Chalcedon did not mean that Christ has two persons, what difference is left?

The Humanity of Christ (What Oriental Orthodox Believe)

Is there any real difference between Oriental Orthodox and Eastern Orthodox, after all?

    Where to go

Not Catholic, neither Protestant. That seems to leave only one option: Orthodox Church. A very traditional, old-fashioned Church in both dogma and liturgy. No pope, no celibacy for priests. On the other hand, it is very hierarchic, and churches tend to be very decorated, so some of the problems...

    in the middle?

Do I understand you right in assuming you are looking for a Church that -clings into traditional mainstream Christianity -does not have the air of a rock concert -has a choir -worships accoring to a standardised liturgy -believes in miracles -is not too strict -is not Roman Catholic Baptism...

Question for Orthodox who've lived in Alaska or any other far North place

A long overcoat will keep cold away surprisingly well. There are good-looking winter-boots available, too, and if you like, you can take another set of shoes to use in the church.

Do you take creation in Genesis literally?

The whole point of the creation story is indeed "why", "by whom", etc., not "how". Yet there is a problem: what was the world like before the fall, and how can we adapt this to today´s scientific knowledge of the world. (I do not believe God would cheat us by putting "false documents" about...

    Question from former Methodist

You clearly are not Christian, but I would just love to drain a pint or two in your company. We would certainly have interesting discussions which might do a world of good to us both. Pity you live out there in the Wild West, so we propably will never meet.

What should jurisidictional unity in America look like?

Here in Finland we have services in several lanquages, there even are some priests specially catering for the needs of the Russian-speaking members of the Church. All under the same jurisdiction. No problem. I believe this is how it should look like.

Monastery Icons = no more. They have adopted the Hindu ways.

Yes. Everybody should be free to profess the faith they prefer, but not to lie about it.

What to do while looking for a church?

I used to visit more or less regularly all the Christian churches in my home town. That´s what finally led me to Orthodoxy. I wasn´t actually even considering to change my church, I was competely satisfied with the Lutheran church, but that just happened.

    I want to apologize

Please, accept my apologies, too. I am not always overtly polite, and I sometimes post my messages too hastily, without thinking enough what I say. Just try to be tolerant with me. I never really mean to insult anyone.

    Appreciating something

The path to unity is a long one, but every step is worth taking. Praised be God!

    Do you own a gun?

True, but there is a morale here: even in desperate situations you often can choose between bad and even worse.

    A "what if" question

Most heresies are based on the Revelations, so there is a thought here. The book was almost left out, but by the pressure of Rome it was included. On the other hand, there must have been a reason for Holy Ghost to include it in the Bible. It was Him, after all, who actually did the decisions.

    Do you own a gun?

@ choirfriend: A hit on the stomach will kill slowly, agreed. As a rule, the ambulance will arrive in time. If you are sure you will score a hit, it is better to aim at the legs. If you miss, you are dead. And, yes, Xpycoctomoc: I do find this thread a little creepy. Killing and maiming people...
