  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Pope Calls Prosletyzing Nonsense

You're correct about the term per se, and I don't know what the original Italian words were-- but in the English translation, it's clear in context that he distinguishes proselytism from evangelism because he talks multiple times in the interview about needing a Church with a missionary spirit...

    Thank you, Fr. James Martin

I've never before seen such a beautiful and clear distinction between what the Pope calls proselytism (which is "solemn nonsense") and a "missionary Church" dedicated to "going about doing good and healing all" (Acts 10:38), spreading faith and love. (don't usually post here but wanted to drop...

Ha! I have since graduated from college, worked for two years, and got a master's degree, so it's been some time. I remember you, too, though! I hope everything is well.

It's nice to meet you. :) I think I remember you a little bit, but that's because I lurked for a little while after leaving. The only icons I'm giving away are the ones I was keeping at my parents' house while living in other places (as I do now, as well.)

Hello! I'm not sure if there's anyone here who remembers me, but I used to post here around eight years ago (geez, I can't believe it was that long ago.) In any case, I'm doing very well and always pray that everyone here is too. I'm posting here because my parents are soon moving to another...

    Good faith building books?

Well, as for books for LGBT people, have you ever read Taking A Chance on God by John J. McNeill? It's a little dated, having been written in the 80s, but still very good! In Jesus, Marjorie

    The Kingdom of Heaven

The Kingdom of God (or in the gospel of Matthew, the Kingdom of Heaven) means, in the language of Jesus and his contemporaries, the reign of God. It is an assertion of what it means for God to rule-- in direct opposition to human political or social order that set itself apart from God's rule...

Giving God' role as Judge a second look...

On the question of guilt, I remember a piece of advice I heard somewhere: "Guilt is not a Christian emotion." If you think about it, it's a rejection of grace. It's the idea that we need to be "good enough" for God to still love and care about us, and that if we fail, God rejects us. It's a form...

Giving God' role as Judge a second look...

I go to a Jesuit college and one thing Jesuits like to say is that God's justice is not opposed to God's mercy-- God's justice is opposed to injustice. I think it is helpful to think of God as a judge not in the sense of weighing transgressions from or compliance with a moral code, but instead...

Ehh I need advice... bi teen

I respectfully disagree- Jesus Christ is the core of the Christian faith. The Scriptures are sacred writings that express the relationship between God and God's people throughout the ages. And of course, since our Lord Jesus in his love for us chose to work and live within time and not apart...

I think the point is that there are many interpretations of those verses. We could also have a quote-fest on divorce, headcoverings, and women being quiet in churches and so on, but this is the liberal forum, and to get conservative interpretations of isolated biblical verses you can go to most...

Ehh I need advice... bi teen

First off, 14 is actually a pretty normal time for people to come to terms about their sexuality, so if I were you, I would take the "you're so young, your sexuality can be figured out later" comments with a grain of salt. I knew I was gay by the age of 14; I've known a lot of people who have...
