There's a difference between having the facts and putting said facts into practice. One can have the knowledge needed to build a bomb and yet not build a bomb. The easy availablity of information on the internet has become a scapegoat for bad choices.

As others indicated, intelligence and likeability are not the same thing. One can be highly intelligent and a flat out jerk.

Who is it that you think is being dishonest and hypocritical? The American Red Cross or the people who believe that charities generally do things better than government-run social services? You weren't clear on that.

That bothers me as well. Perhaps there's a middle ground whereby such individuals could receive help without having to socialize the entire system. I'm not convinced we need to take an all or none approach in order to make some headway.
