  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

1 Cor 16:2 can't be made to say "the main worship day for the NT church was always the first day of the week"

Acts 17 came to my mind - Paul reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and God-fearing Gentiles, and in the marketplace with those he met each day.

The First Four Commandments and the Worship Issue of the End Time

We can observe days and seasons and years, if we wish. The kingdom of God is not eating and drinking. It isn't observing the position of the sun in the sky. Call upon him and he will answer you. He'll show you great things that you weren't expect ing!

    What happened to the Sabbath?

Fascinating! I always wondered why books which even the early church considered not to be trustworthy were still copied. Fascinating again! (Also, I hope that the irony in my post about "know that it wasn't scripture" came through.)

Why we are not supposed to keep the Sabbath

May you be well as well :praying: It looks very sorted out to me  Jesus just says the command (or commandment) of God. I believe that the entire law is fulfilled when we love our neighbor as ourselves. By this we know that we will want to take care of our elderly parents if they need...

Why we are not supposed to keep the Sabbath

Sure, we can read it as one commandment, and then an additional commandment. The Book of Leviticus says it is commandments from God. I can agree that that doesn't change, if that's what you're saying.

Why we are not supposed to keep the Sabbath

It can be read that way. To me it looks like he lumps them together He went on to say, “You neatly set aside the command of God to maintain your own tradition. For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ Leviticus is...

    What happened to the Sabbath?

I would be happy to talk with Peter and Paul if they were present. Paul wrote a letter to the church at Laodicea. We do not have it today. At least, that's not what it's called. In Thessalonians, Paul is talking about the word of God which was heard. It doesn't tell us which books that had...

    What happened to the Sabbath?

I remember reading the song of Azariah in Daniel 3 as a much younger person. I remember thinking that if I didn't know it wasn't scripture, I would think that it was! Blessed are you, O Lord, God of our ancestors, and worthy of praise; and glorious is your name forever! 27 For you are just...

Why we are not supposed to keep the Sabbath

Jesus lists two commandments when he says "the commandment of God". 'Honor your father and your mother;’ and, ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death'. If either one is no longer practiced today, then we know that "the commandment of God" does not mean for all times.

    What happened to the Sabbath?

Does the Bible say that humans can recognize scripture as soon as it is written? I'm not aware of a passage to that effect. Is this scripture? Then they quickly reported all these instructions to those around Peter. After this, Jesus himself also sent out through them from east to west the...

What is the purpose of the Sabbath?

To make the Israelites a separate people. It's one more impediment to mixing with the nations.
