  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

LCMS Positions, the not obvious ones

It hasn't really affected our lives much, my wife being Presbyterian and my being Baptist. Perhaps that's largely because she's not deeply devoted to being Presbyterian, and I'm not deeply devoted to being Baptist. Or it could be because we are more challenged by our cultural differences (she...

LCMS Positions, the not obvious ones

Yes, I suppose that's true. Thank you all for helping me to understand. For what it's worth, Baptist pastors are most usually married to Baptist wives. It's just that it's an unofficial thing.

Thank you for the links, Cantate. A few years ago I considered going to a United Reform church. They also practice closed communion. Having heard an audio message from them, I can most generally respect that practice. However, I would guess that a pastor would have a fairly strong belief on...

Why would he not be able to commune her if she's a Christian in any denomination?

LCMS Positions, the not obvious ones

Yes, I realize that. Still, I see no reason why a wife from a different denomination could not be a good support for her pastor husband. Feel about what? The thing is this... hold on here a second. Green jello? Oh no, this could be a deal breaker.

    Prayer at Upcoming Baptismal Service

The prayer went well. The Pastor's wife even sent me an email including her thanks. Really, I think the majority of the people there were focused on the kids being baptized.

LCMS Positions, the not obvious ones

Are not all men called by God to serve Christ? Are we not all to be in the believers-priesthood? I agree, it is best if husband and wife are united in serving Christ. As for my own relationship, well, hold on, I'll ask her... She says she is needed at her Korean Presbyterian church because...

LCMS Positions, the not obvious ones

What house is divided if husband and wife are just in different denominations? Both are still Christians. Both are still striving to serve God. Both are seeking to evangelize. Both would be raising their kids in the Christian faith. Both would be supporting one another. Sorry, I just don't see a...

Whaaat? Why not? To me, that's just silly. My wife is Presbyterian and I am Baptist, but we are both Christians. It is not denomination which determines if one follows Christ or not.

    Prayer at Upcoming Baptismal Service

Thank you all for your advice. After prayer, what I have decided to do is to read two or three verses from the song "Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty" written back in 1730 by Benjamin Schmolk (It's in the Lutheran Service Book). Will let you know how it goes. Thanks again.

    Prayer at Upcoming Baptismal Service

Pray the truth and let the chips fall where they may, eh. The problem with that is that I'm the chips. The Pastor would come down on me hard. He can really get quite angry when he believes someone is erring theologically. He takes it really personally.

    Prayer at Upcoming Baptismal Service

The more I read of Lutheran theology, the more I find myself in agreement with it. As of even last year if anyone asked me if I supported infant baptism, for example, I would have said no way. Now I am beginning to understand how vital a thing baptism truly is. I've also begun to understand...

    Calvinism

Indeed. A great missionaries-number have been Calvinists, taking the God-word to many distant shores. My wife might not be a Christ-follower today if not for the Calvinist-missionaries-work.

    Accepting Christ

Yes... thank you... that's what I thought. However, the way I understood what CantateDomino wrote is that the sacraments are the works required because we don't require works.

    Accepting Christ

...then why do we need the sacraments at all...?
