    Fr Tom Hopko and Darwin

Sorry I'm not adding to this discussion, but I did just want to second what you have to say about Father Tom. I loved listening to him and still do. Like you, there were things he said that I disagreed with, but you knew that he was being honest in his expression and thought. He wasn't trying...

my selfpainted icons, critics welcome :)

A very good beginning. If you want to continue to grow there are plenty of iconographers now that are offering online tutorials for a few. One of our very own, Ikonographics, offers affordable online tutorials if you are interested. She studied under Dr. George Kordis...

    Churches in the Holy Land

If you ever want to go then I suggest Orthodox Tours with Fr. Ilya Gotlinsky. He is an excellent guide and curates the tour with Orthodox interests at the heart. But don't be worried, because as a lover of history he also incorporates those sorts of excursions into the tours as well. I...

So, my three year old son prayed to the Christmas tree...

No because we aren't praying to the wood the icon is painted on. Just like we don't kiss a ream of gloss paper and a picture of our dead relative in the same way. One would be weird; the other everyone would understand the act goes to the person depicted on the gloss paper not to the paper...

    Ancient Faith Radio App

Just FYI the app is back up for now. It appears they were able to get in touch with the company that services the app.

    Ancient Faith Radio App

They have a post about it on Facebook. Basically the app host/developer has ghosted them. They are in the process of building their own app and are in the beta testing phase. Вхід у Facebook | Facebook

    Auxillary Bishops

Metropolitan Isaiah is a great bishop. You can tell by the growth of the parishes under him and the caliber of clergy that serve him. I used to live in Denver and attended Sts. Peter and Paul out in Boulder. I think they are giving help to Metropolitan Isaiah since, although he is active, is...

    Home iconostasis

How much are you willing to spend? If you go on Facebook Marketplace you can find lots of local people who make custom furniture. You could have them make your own, but it may be a bit costly. Another option is to contact this company. They are Coptic Orthodox and make beautiful custom church...

    Toddlers and the Eucharist

Yeah I assume it will be St. Basil’s prayers, which I think are done by Romanians on his feast day. I agree that how I understand it most priests won’t do “big” exorcism prayers and send most needing this to monasteries where there is deeper asceticism and prayer. It kind of freaked my wife...

    Toddlers and the Eucharist

This is my thought as well - just a rough patch. When speaking to our parish priest about it I expected his recommendations to be family prayer, additional time around the family altar (he loves kissing crosses and icons), and maybe even intentional fasting (by his mom and me). However, he...

    Toddlers and the Eucharist

Have any parents dealt with a toddler who doesn’t want to receive the Eucharist? We have a 1.5 year old who just recently started crying and screaming when it’s his turn to receive the Eucharist. He’s taken it plenty of times before however he was born during the COVID lockdowns so he wasn’t...

    Prayer Request

Tomorrow, March 7th, my son is scheduled to be baptized. He is about 6 weeks old and has come down with either a cold (which would be his second since birth) or has contracted RSV (a respiratory virus). At first the doctor wanted us to cancel the baptism, but he has said we can do it. In your...

    Papa Nicholas Planas Feast Day

Thanks for the replies. I ask because we are expecting a baby boy in January and he is going to be named after Papa Nicholas Planas. My goal is to baptize him on his name day. The questions I have are: 1) This year March 2nd is the first day of Great Lent so where does it move. From John...

    Papa Nicholas Planas Feast Day

St. Nicholas Planas' feast day is March 2nd, however I read somewhere that if his feast day falls within Great Lent, then the feast is moved to the first Sunday after March 2nd. Is this true? Does anyone have a source for this? The only place that I have seen it is on OrthodoxWiki.
