    taking communion

I don't know if anyone is "worthy" to take communion. I believe Paul is saying that communion is a group activity and the rich Corinthians were treating it like their own personal meal with no regard for those who had nothing. Those who aren't looking at the Table as belonging to the Lord...

Is this thinking wrong or sinful?

I think it is strange that you would think that someone might need to be punished or be sick. But if you don't want to get punished or be sick I don't think you should be praying for that to happen.

    Edward Fudge and Conditionalism

I would say more and more of folks in the Churches of Christ do believe in conditionalism. Ed has been a pretty popular speaker at CoC events.

    Communion?

There is a book called "Come to the Table" by John Mark Hicks that is about the restoration view of communion.

    Saturday Night Worship

I think you are missing the "and only" part of his statement. I don't think he says the Bible doesn't show that early Christians didn't take communion (or worship in general) on Sunday. He says the Bible doesn't say (or hint) that is the only day one is allowed to do so.

    No Creed But Christ?

I'm from the Church of Christ so my answers will come from their POV. I think the same can probably be said for Independent Christian Churches, but I don't know much about the Disciples of Christ. The general answer to all your questions is: it varies. Each congregation is autonomous (at...

    Baptism of the Holy Spirit?

At a recent Wednesday night Bible class where we our studying the Holy Spirit, the teacher said that the baptism of the Holy Spirit was a 1 time event that happened at Pentecost. He said that the baptism of the Holy Spirit was when He was poured out for everyone, but that only those who become...

    Are Evangelicals Too Reactionary?

Sure. I think we are often times looking for things to offend us.

    The Hermeneutics Quiz

I took it twice in a row and scored a 65 and 69 which puts me on the border between moderate and progressive. I consider myself a fundamentalist, but maybe I'm not sure what a fundamentalist is. I didn't like some of the questions. For instance - the one on the Sabbath. I don't think it...

    Saturday Night Worship

Does anyone here have any opinions on Saturday night worship replacing Sunday worship? I read a blog post from Jay Guin about this. Here are some quotes from the article Saturday Night Worship? | One In Jesus I think the only time I've ever taken communion other than on a Sunday was...

    What are we restoring?

Welcome to the forum. This forum doesn't get much action anymore, but it is good to see new folks. I'm also a life long CoC member and a Harding graduate.

    Intrigued:

If you are talking about a church using the New Testament and a written creed or a book of doctrine then yes RM churches use the NT alone. There are no creed books, but the OT is used for teaching.

Question for Church of Christ members.

Welcome to the forum. It is always good to see new posters in the Restoration Movement forums. At the congregation I attend only the preacher wears a jacket & tie. A couple of women dress up on Sunday mornings, but everyone else is pretty casual.

    Information sought

The Churches of Christ have a strong history of pacifism. The major publication of the CoCs (the Gospel Advocate) was censured during WWI and Cordell Christian College shut down after the government told them that all anti-war faculty had to resign. During the 40s, the movement almost swung...

    Not the only Christians?

Carm is the Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry run by Matt Slick. He has a call in radio show that is also a podcast. I think he comes across as having a rough personality and I think that lends itself to the sites forums. There is an active Church of Christ discussion board there...
