The firm just agreed to the increase (they said it was a stretch given the recruiter fee, but one they were willing to make because of how good a fit they think I am), so i'll take that as the sign! lol Thank God!

So I asked the firm for a modest salary increase, even though I thought the existing number was hard to beat for a smaller firm doing this project type. Maybe if it's not meant to be, they'd say no to the increase.
