  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Minneapolis ICE shooting: Toxic empathy vs. the rule of law

That's why I try to search for news outlets on both sides. What is really noticeable is that I tried search for several of the names on the ICE list and they did not come up on any of the traditional left leaning sites at all - not even to say "alleged" or "accused". So, to go with the court...

Minneapolis ICE shooting: Toxic empathy vs. the rule of law

An article from a major media outlet that cites multiple government sources is not good enough? How about a federal government press release with specific recent arrests in Minnesota and their criminal records...

Minneapolis ICE shooting: Toxic empathy vs. the rule of law

Reportedly MN has 1,360 people who are illegal immigrants that have committed crimes in custody and refuse to release to ICE plus have released at least 470 with criminal convictions back onto the streets...

Minneapolis ICE shooting: Toxic empathy vs. the rule of law

Perhaps he is not sending ICE agents into those other states en mass because law enforcement in those states are actually holding illegal immigrants who have committed crimes and handing them off to ICE in the jail system, which is a controlled and much safer environment. I am wondering if the...

Minneapolis ICE shooting: Toxic empathy vs. the rule of law

Well, it's a bit more than just my opinion. Although, I will admit that my experiences lead me to prefering a stricter enforcement of some vehicular laws. Every state has specific vehicle and traffic laws that are fairly similar. A quick search on Minnesota law shows a law requiring all...

Minneapolis ICE shooting: Toxic empathy vs. the rule of law

The difference is that his car was an emergency vehicle with emergency lights on and parked that way because she was blocking the lane of traffic. Her wife, after the fact, stated that it was her (the wife's) fault they were there and that they were trying to protect their neighbors and record...

How Trump's proposed cap on credit card rates could reshape consumer lending

The Supreme Court created this mess in 1978 - Marquette v First of Omaha. They decided that usury laws only apply from the bank's home state. This was then reinforced by Congress in 1980. Before that, many states had their own usury laws. In fact, state usury laws are still on the books. My...

Minneapolis ICE shooting: Toxic empathy vs. the rule of law

Intentionally parking perpendicular to traffic is an attempt to block traffic and is still against the law, regardless of whether they were successfully shutting down the road. I was curious and mapped out the location of the school and the last known home address online as well as the...

Minneapolis ICE shooting: Toxic empathy vs. the rule of law

Here's an interesting review of the evidence and various angles of video footage of the same incident by a lawyer who used to be a ADA and a professor: He explains the laws that affect the officer's actions and there are some additional videos that he shows that many of the media outlets have...

Trump says U.S. to ban large investors from buying homes

In my humble opinion, the idea to restrict large company ownership of large swaths of single family homes is a good idea. Especially when coupled with the proposed bond buyback to lower mortgage interest rates. Even in my rural town, we are seeing homes being purchased by larger companies from...

    Using AI for scripture study

I don't know about physical products, but from the electronic data aspect, on the federal level, FERPA is a law that restricts what companies can do with student data. In my case, NYS Education Law 2D is even more restrictive and several other states have also added their own similar student...

    Using AI for scripture study

Giving AI a name makes it more like a person and it subconciously changes how people interact with it, especially teenagers and younger adults, who are already much more comfortable with screen chats than talking to live people. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deaths_linked_to_chatbots I don't...

    Using AI for scripture study

That is a problem with some AI tools. ChatGPT allows a user to actually give it a name and that has led to suicides and divorces already. Gemini will not allow you to name it and will actually resp[ond to requests like that stating that it is artifical intelligence software designed to assist...

    Using AI for scripture study

It mostly comes down to federal and state education privacy laws. Student data is not allowed to be used to improve or market products. Also, there have been examples in the early months of these LLM models of being able to trick the AI into releasing data about other users by writing queries...

    Using AI for scripture study

Well, one of the concerns we have at the school level is compliance with privacy laws and so far very few LLM AI tools will even sign a contract that complies with FERPA and state education laws. So, that narrows the options dramatically. Google is basically the only major LLM player that has...
