  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Using AI for scripture study

Well, one of the concerns we have at the school level is compliance with privacy laws and so far very few LLM AI tools will even sign a contract that complies with FERPA and state education laws. So, that narrows the options dramatically. Google is basically the only major LLM player that has...

    Using AI for scripture study

Part of what is missing in any discussion about AI is the various versions of AI tools. Are you talking about ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, etc.? Each one has strong points and problems. My IT job is in a K12 school district and we have been evaluating AI tools for use in school operations and...

Guilty until proven innocent: HHS freezing child care payments to all states until they prove funds 'being spent legitimately'

Here's the Cal state audit report: https://www.auditor.ca.gov/reports/2025-601/ They added one agency this year due to "errors in calculating benefits". 7 agencies remain on their high risk list because they have not addressed the issues that have been reported over the past several years...

Guilty until proven innocent: HHS freezing child care payments to all states until they prove funds 'being spent legitimately'

This is throwing the baby out with the bath water. I agree with freezing payments to Minnesota and, after recent revelations, California. But, the federal government should not penalize all 50 states for the mis-deeds of a couple. I added California because of the release of the state's own...

Ethics on lies and how to tell other Christians that they are supporting liars.

It is interesting to see this topic come up now... I have been reading about Ambrose, the Bishop of Milan from 374 to 397 and he wrestled with this kind of morality 1600 years ago. The quote that I cam across from his writing that drew me in was: "How can you consider a man to be better than you...

Mamdani’s Socialist Grocery Store: Shopping in the Aisle of Denial

I agree 100%. This is a recipe for disaster. Mamdani has also proposed to increase NYC's minimum wage to $30 by 2030. He declared that $30 was the floor for a living wage now. The way I see it, the primary driver for the recent inflation over the past 5 years is the rapid increase in minimum...

Do you think a guilty until proven innocent justice system could ever be a good thing?

When it comes to the court of public opinion, I agree with you. That is a failing of the media. However, when it comes to the legal court, I think the process that is in place still protects the innocent, at least when it comes to the evidentiary bar that has to be crossed. Unfortunately, the...

    Using AI for scripture study

AI is a tool. It can be used for good or evil. It is up to the user to determine how to use it. The user must verify any output from AI, just like you need to verify any other source of information. What AI is good for is to speed up research. I do use AI to research items and to validate my...

Do you think a guilty until proven innocent justice system could ever be a good thing?

Nope. Proverbs 18:17 - "In a lawsuit the first to speak seems right, until someone comes forward and cross-examines." I think this shows that it is biblical to have as fair trial.

    Hello

Hi everyone, I'm Fred. I have returned to the church just 3 years ago after a long absence. I was raised Roman Catholic and stopped attending in my teenage years, both out of lack of time with HS and College and questioning faith. But, years later, I have found a local United Methodist Church...
