  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    His Dark Materials

The author, Philip Pullman, is an atheist and certainly intended the books to convey some anti-Christian sentiment. It said so directly on his website, back when the Golden Compass movie came out. I'm a Christian, and I have read and enjoyed the entire series. For me, it wasn't as much fun as...

    The Unborn movie

I haven't seen it yet but I'm considering it. All I'm sure of is that it would give me nightmares. Even the preview made me scream. :) For a Christian film, I would not have a problem with violence (or sexuality, or language...) if it was relevant to the plot. Obviously, the scenes that made...

What do you think of LaVey

Aside from being genuinely misguided, I think Anton LaVey was a trickster. His "philosophy" appears to be nothing more than embodied greed, and his literature mainly encouraged selfishness rather than community. I can understand how some of his writings might appeal to people who felt they...

    Showing Affection

This part of your post resonates with me. If something embarrassing or uncomfortable has happened, even if it was accidental or the other person didn't notice somethng was wrong, it could affect the way you feel. I think it's fine to politely ask for a handshake or something else instead of a...

Anyone want to share some university ("college") advice?

Just say "yes" to opportunities to socialize, like clubs and events. They are a great way to meet people who will be your support through school and can be good contacts after school. Just don't overdo it. Set aside time with God daily. It's so easy to lose your connection with Christ in the...
