St. Euphrosynos Taverna and Ouzeri 18

Oh. I guess I didn't realize that. The original signup said that it couldn't be changed. In any case, I think I like DavidG better, and I don't really have much of a post history. If anybody really wants to trace my posts, hopefully they will find this one.

    Chatting about the rules

Reader Nickolai, I cannot remain hetrodox. The Apostolic Succession thread, in which you and Philip in patricular were were defending the faith, was my first exposure to the Orthodox Church. Your simple and gentle statements of the truth compelled me to discover where your confidence came...

    Identifying Orthodoxy

Update: I visited St. John Chrysostom last Wednesday for the Pre-sanctified Liturgy. The people, and the service, were amazing. I'm expecting to be back again once my business travel permits. Thanks to all and to God.

Do these books line up with Orthodoxy?

I am wondering to what extent the teachings in a couple books are orthodox or hetrodox. Specifics would be helpful. C.S. Lewis: * Mere Christianity * Miracles * The Problem of Pain * The Great Divorce Richard J Foster: * Celebration of Discipline * Prayer

Theology in 5 minutes or less

I'm not sure I violated the letter, but I'm pretty sure I violated the spirit. I was asking about what seemed to me to be an ugliness in post-schism Roman doctrinal development. In my heart, I don't think I was really asking a question, but taking a cheap swipe. (from the Required Reading...

    Identifying Orthodoxy

A Roman Catholic friend told me today about a local congregation which calls themselves Catholic, but is out of communion with the RCC. I'd really like to get to know an Orthodox church, and have found one that looks interesting. How do I know if they are legitimately Orthodox without...

You're right, and it probably was a violation of the rules for me to post that here. I'm sorry.

I got some interesting news yesterday

John S. Sprong, while admittedly a retired and not active Episcopalian Bishop, penned "Sins of the Scripture", in which he shares priceless gems like his theory that Saint Paul was a homophobe. My mother's girlfriend gave this book to me at my baptism to convince me that their lifestyle was...

Theology in 5 minutes or less

This may be off-base, and please correct me if I'm wrong. If it fair to say that after the schism, the RCC developed the following doctrines? * Purgatory as a place of suffering to pay the temporal penalty for sin (after it is forgiven). * The individual's meritorious acts remove some or...

    Tonsuring Pics

Congratulations, Nickolai! Can I ask some questions out of ignorance? What is tonsuring? Is it a form of ordination? What is a reader? Someone who reads in the liturgy? Is it a clergy or lay position? Lay, since you're soon going to seminary?

    Ante-Nicene Fathers and Apostolic Succession

I read on a thread in the General Theology forum that someone was convinced of the validity of the doctrine of Apostolic succession by reading the writings of the early Church Fathers. He said that Apostolic succession was universaly (or nearly so) appealed to when combatting heresy. I would...
