  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    The Kingdom of God... .

I've been reading Joseph Ratzinger's book on 'Eschatology', focusing especially on his discussion of the kingdom of God. As far as I understand it, the kingdom is present in Christ: maybe we could go so far as to say that it is Christ... . But it is also 'now and not yet'. I may have...

    Searching the Church Fathers... .

Hello. I'm preparing to write an essay on Mark 9:2-13, the transfiguration, and have been looking at some commentaries in the library. I'd really like to read some of the early church fathers' commentaries on Mark as well to get a different perspective. Is there any sort of facility online where...

    The Trinity... .

I would like to have a discussion within the context of scripture and tradition, yes... .

    The Trinity... .

This thread was not about your position on the trinity. We established very early on that it's similar to Arius' position which by definition means you are part of a different church tradition from the one I am part of. I would very much like to discuss the church tradition of which I am a...

Maybe they should realise that they're both discrediting their own positions by their approach to each other... .

    The Trinity... .

The 'subject' was my understanding of the Trinity. Neither of you is attempting to understand the other's position; instead you are throwing proof texts at each other, criticising each other, and as much as both of you think you are bravely combating heresy, instead you are arguing on the...

    The Trinity... .

But the Son is eternally begotten of the Father so regardless of whether the Son is 'required' for the Father to be Father, does the Father exist as Father only by virtue of the eternally begotten Son...?

    The Trinity... .

Yeah, that's Sabellius who I really am trying to avoid I swear! So God exists as one being; within that one being are three persons, each of which is fully and wholly God. The only difference between them are that the Father is Father by virtue of his relation to the son. If this latter...

    The Trinity... .

So how are we defining person if it not by being nor by action...? :)

    The Trinity... .

Okay, thank you. So the Father is Father in essence...? In his very essence and being, God is both Father and Son...? Is that orthodox...? If so, are we saying that God is not only one but also three in essence...? In that case, why was the' distinction' between being and person introduced...?
