  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Another question. Who believes that Moses wrote the first five books of the bible?

I thought it would be more sensible to do some research before talking to him. The research that I have done states that as early as the 11th century Jewish scholars were doubting that Moses was the author of those five books. I also read that there was a growing consensus during the...

Another question. Who believes that Moses wrote the first five books of the bible?

I went to church last Sunday with my Partner, she is a Christian I am not. During the Vicars sermon he made the statement that Moses wrote Genesis, he later made the statement that Moses wrote the first five books of the old Testament. I was surprised that he was stating this as fact, and did...

Question on changing attitudes to morals and going against literal bible interpretation

Fair point, but my point was church doctrine rather than individual interactions. I’ll give you an example: The lady who I’m in a relationship with goes to a church where the interpretation of the Bible is very Conservative, they do not allow female pastors, and they condemn in very strong...

Question on changing attitudes to morals and going against literal bible interpretation

True but same sex marriage is allowed within the law and same sex relationships are accepted in law and in society. Therefore Christians should accept the laws of the land?

Question on changing attitudes to morals and going against literal bible interpretation

I’m sorry but I don’t understand your question.

Question on changing attitudes to morals and going against literal bible interpretation

The point of my post was to highlight that Christians have change their moral position on some aspects of biblical rules, i.e. slavery yet some churches and denominations maintain very strict opposition to modern cultural changes such as heterosexual relations outside of marriage, divorce...

Were some stories in the Bible not literal history?

I guarantee you will get a whole variety of responses to this question. I was at my partners church the other day and the speaker stated as fact that the flood happened as described in the Bible, that the talking snake happened as described in the Bible and help will happen as described in the...

Question on changing attitudes to morals and going against literal bible interpretation

My question is on changing acceptance of different behaviours, or changing moral interpretations, from the Bible to the modern world. I want to use the example of slavery, and how the church has completely changed its attitude to slavery compared to that in the Bible, and to compare this to how...

Bible IS SCIENCE, exposing misnamed 'science' today

I find this thread in equal measure hilarious and frightening. The scientific method has got us to the point where we can debate on our computers, with electricity generated from various methods, using incredibly complex technology developed via the scientific method, over hundreds of years. If...

Do religious discussions here make you want to be Christian?

I find it interesting that people believe so fervently stories which appear to me to be blatant nonsense. I’d love to understand why some believe in god/ Jesus etc but some don’t. My own opinion is that the majority of Christians will have been raised in a Christian environment, or suffered some...

    Query about believers who sin

The sex outside of marriage is interesting because if a couple are in a committed, exclusive, loving relationship then they are in a way married. The act of marriage can be undertaken in many ways, and who says a piece of paper is needed to confirm ones relationship status?

    Query about believers who sin

ibwaz having a chat with my partner this morning, she is a practicing Christian, and she wondered about forgiveness and judgement. As she’s now gone off to church and I’m shortly off to the pub then football I thought I’d ask if there was a consensus. If belief gets you into heaven but you...

    The trials of Job

It always interests me how there is such a range of interpretations of scripture from Christians. I sometimes listen to Premier Christian Radio, and they have everyone from full blown Bible literalists to the most liberal of "soft" Christians on their various programmes. I suppose all that...

    The trials of Job

I always compare it to the film "Changing Places" where unscrupulous individuals have a bet on swapping over two people, destroying the life of one and transforming the life of the other, all for a $5 bet. God and Satan apparently had a bet, albeit without money changing hands and some poor...

Can anyone explain the concept of "election"

I listened to the sermon at my partners church the other day and the subject of election was being debated. The speaker seemed to be saying that god "chooses" the people who will be believers and therefore saved BEFORE they are born as part of his master plan. Hence, no matter what is said to me...
