    Looking for a Church Home

Heya Markie, I'm glad to hear you considering the Lutheran Church and I appreciate your wrestling with these questions. I wasn't raised Lutheran, so these were doctrines difficult for me to grasp as well, but now I have the joy of serving in the Lutheran Church, so I'd be glad to help if I may...

    Calvin Robinson got in trouble

I used to have a lot of respect for Calvin, but I increasingly found him saying things that are either questionable or not befitting of the pastoral office, so his dismissal comes as no surprise to me. I was able to find the clip where he copies Musk’s gesture and it’s sad to me he did it in...

    Divorce?

If it's useful, here are some notes from a chat about divorce in our church. It's a simple overview of divorce as taught in the Bible and with some pastoral thoughts towards the end. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nn0GpZ5FfU48ETH6sHcWQmGTMoGWRb7qk3vAjCiXQLU/edit?usp=sharing

Which would you prefer to see in your translation, "Yahweh" or "Jehovah"?

PS: If you cross-reference Joel 2:32 and Romans 10:9-13 you can learn something about how Paul uses the term "Lord" when applied to Jesus. It's not a generic "lord" but YHWH. :)

Which would you prefer to see in your translation, "Yahweh" or "Jehovah"?

I prefer the "LORD" as it's less prone to confusion, but I think "YHWH" would be my preferred spelling of the Tetragrammaton.

    The sacrificial system

No, we may call it a sacrifice, but this means very concretely that (1) it’s God’s sacrifice in that Christ is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, and (2) that we offer up a sacrifice of prayer, praise, and thanksgiving (“Eucharist” means thanksgiving).

    The sacrificial system

Absolutely! It all culminates in Christ, and through Christ it's very relevant for us in our time. It's a profound and wonderful gift that we get to come before the Lord as co-heirs with Christ and a priestly people, to offer up prayers and thanksgiving for ourselves and others. God promises to...

    The sacrificial system

Hey, I put together a presentation on the sacrificial system in the OT, and I figured I'd share it here in case it's of interest to anyone! God's blessings to you all! https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1QOGV2UMDffAP94xzS-dDITHe8H41vpcYn7acrSYTNkA/edit?usp=sharing

    Free Acts commentary

Yeah, that's great! To sin is sin, but so is the desire to sin (cf. Exodus 20:17; Matthew 5:27-28; 1 John 3:15). We can even put it this way: We're sinners because we sin, but chiefly, we sin because we're sinners. And while Judas did recognise his sin and regretted it, he was led to despair...

    Free Acts commentary

Thank you very much for the question and my apologies for the delayed response! I think the reason why there is a lack of commentary on Matthias, specifically, is because we sadly don't know much about him. There are no other mentions of him in the NT, and references to him outside the Bible...

Question concerning attending churches outside our confessions for nephew and niece baptisms?

Hey, that's a great question! We can rejoice in that God's promise through baptism is the same throughout His Church, so you can rightly support your nephew and niece getting baptised in a non-denominational church. They won't have the biblically rich catechesis that should accompany baptism...
