  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    What should my approach be?

In reading this, I realized I made a mistake. Ssa isn't a choice, but acting on it is. Wanting the expensive perfume on the Macy's counter is different than actually taking it.

    What should my approach be?

Bottom line - Josh is not self-sufficient and therefore needs his basic needs met until he can support himself. I wouldn't call him Jane. Unless you are not against homosexuality. I am. So I prefer the terms "SSA" (same sex attracted) and "gay-identified." Being SSA is a choice, just like...

Yes, I see. I figured it out after re-reading it. I agree that is often the pattern. So sad...

    dilemma

Thank you all for these thoughtful replies. Jane, I am conflicted because I may be invited to her wedding if she remarries, and I want to know that I should support such a new union or not. I do agree with you about her ex's mental issues. That's likely going to be in the picture for the long...

    dilemma

I've become aware of a situation which I don't know what to think of... A woman, we'll call her Gloria, has been emotionally neglected and financially misused by her husband. She then sees rather strong evidence that he has had at least one affair, though she's not totally sure. She stands...

    Butting in or helping out?

Hmmm.... you mean, if he reads this, it could cause more trouble? Perhaps I should severely edit it. I do feel I've gotten the input I needed.

    Butting in or helping out?

This is what I'm praying for. Everything else will be fall into place once this happens. I need to find a way to apologize w/o going back on my true beliefs in this situation. That would be empty. Please pray that God shows me what to do - thanks!

    Butting in or helping out?

Wow, this is good advice. I will pray about it. Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into your response. It was very insightful!

    Butting in or helping out?

To those who respsonded to this originally - thank you SO much! I felt I should remove this so as not to embarrass the people involved, in case others in our circles figured out who was who. But I am glad I got the helpful advice I needed! God bless you all for taking the time :)

    Ratting out someone's else's kid...

I agree with you completely. The friendship vs. parent-child thing is definately an issue, from other things I've noticed watching Ellen and her kids together.

    Tattling on each other's kids

A parent should by all means keep in confidence what is shared between their child and them. It is only in extreme situations, where someone is in danger, like using drugs and running with other drug-users, that a parent would have to explain to their child that for the other child's safety...

    Ratting out someone's else's kid...

So my sister, Debby, told me that she just found out that her best friend, Ellen, knew for some time that her (Debby's) son was smoking pot. (It only went on for a couple months, and then Debby and her husband found out about it from my nephew.) Also, Ellen knew that he'd been riding in cars...

    Tattling on each other's kids

laconicstudent and bsd31, you'll both get it when/if you have kids. I was once quite the dare-devil, afraid of nothing, ready to take on the world. Then I became pregnant. Wow. All the dare just drained right out of my toes, and something else - fierce protection, enough to drive one to...

    Tattling on each other's kids

It's not just about smoking pot. It's also driving around with other kids who are high. Ellen even admitted her fear over that, and didn't let her son go along because of the physical danger of being in a car with other kids in such a state. Interesting.... I'm here for opinions and info, and...

    Tattling on each other's kids

OK, in defense of my sister and myself, when I mentioned a"ttachment parenting," I was trying to paint a picture of Ellen. Co-sleeping and nursing til your kid's 5 is certainly none of my business, but when I said her kids - adult, college-aged sons - told her everything, I meant everything. For...
