  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Question about non-Catholic Christians & divorce

I have a friend who has a strong affinity for the Catholic church. Her husband is a minister in another denomination so it is unlikely she will convert to Catholicism unless/until the Holy Spirit moves in a mighty way but she has a beautiful heart that desires to love and serve the Lord. She...

    song of songs

A protestant friend asked me tonight if I thought Song of Songs should be in the Bible. Apparently her church group was having a discussion and she wants to go back next week and share the Catholic view on this. I've tried to research it, but I'm really not finding anything beyond the fact...

    Wine

Well, cool! I just learned something new. :) I will look for Chateauneuf du Pape ... I'm not sure what to expect when you say "expensive." :p

    Wine

I love this thread! If you like merlot or are looking for a red wine, try a syrah! (No, I'm not confusing it with a shiraz) My sister-in-law brought a bottle at Christmas and I fell in love with it! I've been trying several brands -- generally the cheaper ones aren't as good (of course)...

The truth about the war in Iraq

Respectfully, I disagree with that. I don't believe we're told to love our enemies "except" ... and I don't even really think we're told to prepare to defend ourselves. Spiritually, yes ... physically, no. Not very logical, is it? Yet, it is what we are called to do, in my opinion. Jesus...

The truth about the war in Iraq

I'm sorry -- I guess it was too much to expect to have a scriptural discussion on war instead of a tired old political battle. Jesus gave us a new command and He was exceedingly clear about it. It is not easy and it is not logical by the standards of this world. But ... we as Christians...

The truth about the war in Iraq

Again, I'm not sure what you are directing me to read -- about your mass experiences? Are you not Catholic? Not that it matters to me, but I'm just trying to get to know you as we discuss these things. :) And no -- I would not run out to defend "property," even the vatican. And I am being...

The truth about the war in Iraq

I'm not sure if you have a typo in there or if it is not worded quite right, but to be honest I'm not sure what you are asking me. Please forgive me -- I'm probably just tired and not reading it right. Will you try again? I will give you my honest answer. I do wonder at this part: "I find...

The truth about the war in Iraq

That is very loving to those who cannot defend themselves. But again -- please explain to me how it is loving to your enemy? Coincidentally, today's mass reading asks what credit it is to us to love only those who love us back -- we are challenged by Jesus to love those who hate you and...

The truth about the war in Iraq

No offense, but that cut & paste article does not at all address what I wrote, nor does it reflect what I believe. Maybe it would be helpful if I introduced myself a little. I am 46 years old and for most of my life, I believed as you do -- and in fact I very much supported our invasion of...

The truth about the war in Iraq

I oppose this war based on what I believe Jesus Christ taught. If someday we "may" live in an "islamic Amierica" please tell me scripturally who selects the leaders of the nations? (Hint: Romans 13) You mean, like Jesus? When you say things like that, "Those who are willing to be the...

    Jesus please forgive me

Is it possible the Lord is also asking you to re-look at your views on war? "Pro-life" applies to more than abortion ... the Church teaches life is sacred from conception to natural death; that includes abortion, euthenasia, capital punishment and war. Just a thought ... it is not at all...

    Loving God

Ask Him! I don't mean that in a flippant way at all ... but sincerely, ask Him. He already knows how you feel. And a heartfelt plea like that is sure to be answered in a beautiful way. As for things you can "do," it's much like getting to know anyone else; the more time you spend talking...
