  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Work is the cause of all our woes

Good point. If I didn't understand the words "allergy" or "death", that would certainly change things. But to bring it back to Eve, if she had no sense of right/wrong/sin/death/etc...how was she capable of making a well informed decision? Just for the sake of discussion.

A rock so heavy God can't lift it...

Right on. I like the way that's worded.

Work is the cause of all our woes

I'm allergic to peanuts. All the medical professionals tell me not to eat peanuts, or I will die. And thus I don't eat peanuts. No amount of money, promises, or sweet talking by a smooth and sexy creature could get me to eat a peanut. If a higher authority told me that the same was true for a...

    Disadvantages of Being Too Logical?

"Criticism is futile because it puts a person on the defensive and usually makes him strive to justify himself. Criticism is dangerous, because it wounds a person's precious pride, hurts his sense of importance, and arouses resentment. B.F. Skinner, the world-famous psychologist, proved...

    What is the worst sin?

Odd question. How do you measure sin in degrees? My Bible didn't come with a conversion chart in the back. Flip the question: What is the greatest good? It still doesn't make sense, but those answers would be more diverse and interesting. PS- Why is this thread tagged with "sarah jessica...

    What is Sin?

Sin is an action that is judged to be bad. Actions themselves are not inherently good or bad, they are just actions. Things that happened. Depending on your belief system, you can judge whether the action was good/bad/had any meaning at all. Everyone: "I just scratched my neck. Was that good...

A rock so heavy God can't lift it...

This question/paradox has been haunting people for so long. I hope no one loses too much sleep over it, because it's a bad question poorly asked. "Logic" refers to the method of reasoning our brains use to make sense of the world. We need to understand shapes and visual scenes. Our minds need...

Why is the creation:evolution debate important?

My apologies, I do realize that I worded that completely wrong. I never meant to imply that athiests or evolutionists were seeking to disprove God. Evolution is science, not theology. I wouldn't ever think that an athiest is fervently seeking to disprove God for any reason anyway, since the...

Why is the creation:evolution debate important?

The debate is important because....athiests think that by proving evolution they are disproving God. Christians think that by accepting evolution they are rejecting God.

    The Gospel of Q

Well that's fun. I was just curious as to whether or not this book offered any possible solutions to the problems. I like to hear arguments from Christianity's opposition, but it's also nice every now and then to read someone who attempts to intelligently offer plausible solutions to those...

    The Gospel of Q

    The Gospel of Q

I heard about this Q gospel in my History of Christianity class. It's definitely interesting. KCDAD- What is An Infidel Manifesto...is this a book to attack faith, like The God Delusion, or does it actually find a way to work out the problems with Christianity?

RecoveringPhilosopher posted a few humbling words... I like it. I'm even contemplating reputation points.

    How Does Satan Attack Us?

So basically...how a person determines his or her concept of Satan can generally boil down to the age old literal vs. allegorical interpretation of the Bible debate, correct? But I'm aware that that's a completely different thread...

    How Does Satan Attack Us?

Throughout Job, it states that Satan (or adversary, accuser) approaches God multiple times and has conversations with Him. This appears very much as a personified being. How does that fit in with your theory? (I am not attacking, just inquiring. I like your theory.)
