  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Not wanting to live among rich people

I think my disgust has more to do with people’s unwillingness to put safety (I.e. personal comfort) and education aside. These things can be idols and I think affluent Christians walk a fine line when they pursue them above the great commission. There should be more families witnessing in poorer...

Not wanting to live among rich people

@Joined2krist is a Christian supposed to be worried about safety when being directed by the Lord? What about the families who are witnessing in Iran, China, etc? Should they not “go” because of safety concerns? How is it different if they are living in the US?

Not wanting to live among rich people

I just came back home from a vacation in Florida today and was walking around my LA neighborhood and see nothing but affluence from my neighbors. (similar to the places I visited in Florida) The past 8 years so I've witnessed more middle-class folks being priced out of Los Angeles so most of who...

    Appointing a Godparent

We appointed a Godparent to our first son. She is a Godly woman and we were happy to find her. It is not easy to find people to be Godparents. Our second son is almost 3 and we still haven't found him a Godparent. We haven't found anyone at our Church who we feel will be around for a long time...

    Mens Accountability

I started a sin accountability buddy relationship with another church member. We usually go out to eat to talk and pray or talk on the phone. Meeting in person is our preferred contact method however. He usually wants to drink 1-2 beers when we meet. Knowing him and his personality I agreed to...

1 Cor 7:5 and sexual intimacy

You will find her comment in the article under the paragraph "Real Love in the Bedroom" near the bottom, first sentence. I give Christ the glory for making me victorious over the sexual sin I used to be enslaved to. I know it was His grace and Spirit, which I did not deserve, but was a gift to...

1 Cor 7:5 and sexual intimacy

The article that promoted my post is discussed in this thread. You can read for context but the link is here: Forget Duty Sex: What You Really 'Owe' Your Spouse The implication that withholding sex in marriage can lead to temptation is 1 Corinthians 7:4-9

1 Cor 7:5 and sexual intimacy

I really like what you said about how spoiling each other can help keep one another weak. While I think a spouse can help the other avoid temptation by providing regular sexual intimacy, if the other spouse has never overcame their own sexual sin, they may still have adultery in their heart for...

1 Cor 7:5 and sexual intimacy

Thanks. All very good suggestions! I especially like the idea of bringing dessert to dinner and writing poems for each other as an activity to do together.

1 Cor 7:5 and sexual intimacy

This article I read in Focus on the Family prompted my post because the author said so. Here is the link. Forget Duty Sex: What You Really 'Owe' Your Spouse - Focus on the Family You will find her comment under the paragraph "Real Love in the Bedroom" near the bottom, first sentence. Thanks...

1 Cor 7:5 and sexual intimacy

I have heard it said that a spouse is not a safeguard against sexual sin, but Paul says "Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self control". I understand that true self control from sexual sin is a gift from the Lord. Then why does Paul suggest...

    Dealing with Sinners at Church

I’m not talking about how to deal with sinners in general. I do not think you can’t generalize it. It depends on the person you are dealing with how you should respond. It doesn’t make you a Pharisee to follow Paul’s teaching if the situation warrants. Even Jesus did not deal with every sinner...

    Dealing with Sinners at Church

I think my journey has helped me face the reality that if I am associating too much with these sinners and I don’t have a healthy support of strong growing Christian friends or mentors to provide personal spiritual direction and support, then I am susceptible to the negativity and weight of...

    Spiritual Intelligence (SQ)

This article describes the 7 kinds of love that are used in the bible. The 7 Types of Love in the Bible by the way, thanks for sharing that article about SP. I’ve always suspected spirituality was an important leadership trait but I’ve never really read about it. I am encouraged to really...

    Spiritual Intelligence (SQ)

It is missing love. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 NIV [1] If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. [2] If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move...
