  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Jesus Christ, was he sent for all mankind?

We're sure they are, but they're far to voluminous to post here, consisting of around 200 volumes! You can peruse them at these sites, though: http://www.bahai-library.org (click "Writings" to see our scriptures), and http://www.reference.bahai.org (this site is multilingual). Oh--and if...

Jesus Christ, was he sent for all mankind?

If you call the Baha'i scriptures "theology," but that's not a term we use ourselves. Peace, Bruce

Jesus Christ, was he sent for all mankind?

OF COURSE Jesus was sent for all mankind, just as were all the other Divine Messengers God has sent! Not all of them were able to hear Their messages, but all were indeed the goals of them, at least potentially. Peace, :-) Bruce

    Determinism

Sure God knows all, but He also created us with free will! And that means that even if He knows the outcome, we often don't, and ourselves determine a large part of it through our own decisions. (Indeed, I take being "made in the image of God" to mean that in this life, we have that free...

Prominent Sunni Imam calls married women to sexual jihad.

Of course, there is another definition of sexual jihad. I refer anyone interested to Lysistrata. Bruce

    Did you prepare for Ramadan?

No, I didn't prepare for Ramadan because the Baha'i Fast takes place during March (the same time every year because we're on a solar calendar). I did fast then, and it was a most fulfilling experience. And to Dazed, I can't speak for Islam, but in the Baha'i Faith those near the poles are...

You would do well at least to learn how to spell the word.

    How I Regard Israel Today

[OK; I now recall the topic, so you can disregard the private reply.] It does, however, tend to qualify as spam if you post a HUGE amount of unrequested text, which is what you did. As ever, moderation is the key... Bruce

How can Christians be sure that the Koran is not the word of God

I JUST QUOTED where YOU said it!! So YOU are in no position to carp about ME. Nor did you address my point that the quotes you posted don't apply to us.

How can Christians be sure that the Koran is not the word of God

Just as it's most dejecting that YOU aren't aware that the attacks you just quoted don't apply to Baha'is because we believe in both the Oneness of God and the Last Day. [Simplegifts would do well to note this, too.] (Or should I say in respect to Rationalt, "White man speak with forked...

NPR - The Origins Of The Shiite-Sunni Split

As may be, the status of the Imams is quite beside the point! If you want to consider the ORIGINS of the Sunni-Shia split, they stem directly from the immediate disagreement upon Muhammad's death about the right succeed Muhammad: The Sunnis favored one individual (and one sort of...

How can Christians be sure that the Koran is not the word of God

Although I've read the book, I honestly can't (off the top of my head) say what the proportions are, and honestly don't have time to reread it right now. You may well be correct about its being highly factual. If I may, I'll defer to LuL's response above. Regards, :-) Bruce

How can Christians be sure that the Koran is not the word of God

It's simply the style of the writing. It should be borne in mind that religious scriptures are intended neither as science texts nor as history books: their purpose is to teach ethics and lifestyles. It's when you confuse one purpose with the other that you get into trouble. Peace, Bruce

How can Christians be sure that the Koran is not the word of God

I'm saying that many Biblical passages aren't literal and shouldn't be taken as if they were, the more so given that they are not particularly relevant to the main point of the Gospels. Peace, Bruce
