  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Tip: walk with skipoles. Burns about 40% more energy than just walking. Plus you get an upper body workout.

VintageDon: walking is not too bad. But add two ski-poles and you can easily burn off up to 40% more energy in the same amount of time. Plus you get an upper body workout. BlueJay83: Good to know that it works well for others too :) 1 egg each day is a good habit. Eggs are so full of...

U.S. announces diplomatic breakthrough with North Korea

Only those loyal to the regime get the food. Many people in the countryside live in horrendous conditions. It is doubtful if food will do anything good in the long-term. I guess the only way to undermine the regime is to start trading with North Korea, that way modern equipment and ideas from...

    The Losing Weight Thread

Protein rich foods are very good for at least 4 reasons: 1. Preservers muscle mass so that the body uses fat rather than muscles. 2. Keeps you full. 3. Keeps you warm(er) (thermogenesis). 4. Somewhat higher metabolism. During diets I tend to eat oat meal (porridge) and 1 egg (nutrient...

"How do I know God exists?" - the first step to atheism

In which case he/she would not nearly be the same as during his life on earth. In effect no one gets to heaven by that reasoning. Who cares about waking up? It was just an example. How about thinking the exact same thing for the 1*10^99th time? Not very rewarding I should say.

    My Knowledge Challenge

Yes, because the theory of evolution predicted that, even before the DNA-helix was discovered by Watson and Crick.

    My Knowledge Challenge

DNA-analysis shows that all known organisms are related, and in what fashion. The phylogenetic tree of life is a family tree. Evolution is the only logical explanation for that. See the Tree of Life Project. Tree of Life Web Project

    My Knowledge Challenge

I don't see how anything other than evolution (descent with modification) can explain phylogenetic trees.

"How do I know God exists?" - the first step to atheism

No, really think about it. Living for an eternity would be painful and would inevitably lead to madness under normal circumstances. If that was somehow prevented by a god then you would no longer be yourself, no longer human at any rate. Just waking up for the billionth time would be...

"How do I know God exists?" - the first step to atheism

Those who think an everlasting life is everlasting bliss are mistaken. It would be horrifying if life did not come to an end because it would never end. Same thing again and again, that's how it would feel like eventually.

is it possible every religion is a lie and billions of people are wrong

I actually disagree with that. I think humans, by nature, are very curious and look for answers. When science was not developed religion was the only thing that could provide any form of "explanation" for natural phenomena. Moreover for some people religion provides a sense of purpose; which...

is it possible every religion is a lie and billions of people are wrong

Why would a perfect being approve of a book that cannot be "trusted" and is subject to a variety interpretations? Many christians in the US get their morality (or so they say) from the old testament (the ten commandments). Even if that is Judaism, it is still an important part of their belief...

is it possible every religion is a lie and billions of people are wrong

Oh, so people who interpret the bible literally are not understanding it properly? Again, how do you determine that a religion is clearly demonically inspired? Imagine that you read a religious text that says "stone 5 children in every village each sunday", and then go on to criticize the...
