  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Best Recent Book on Discipleship?

I've got several of the "classic" books on discipleship, but what is a recent publication (within the last 5 years or so) that has helped you become a better disciple for Jesus Christ? Thank you for any and all help. BCubed

Deeper Relationship with Jesus / God Book?

Excellent! Thank you very much for that clarification and the link! Would it be fine to start the devotions now (reading August 13th), or is it best to start with January 1st and read forward? I wasn't sure if the devotionals 'built' upon each other as the year went on. Again, I appreciate...

Deeper Relationship with Jesus / God Book?

Thank you for the recommendations. One question in regards to My Utmost for His Highest. I see it offered in 365/366 day devotional and a 90 day gift devotional. Was the book originally written as a devotional or as a traditional book? Thank you for your help. BCubed

Deeper Relationship with Jesus / God Book?

What books (other than the Bible) have helped you draw closer to Jesus / God / the Holy Spirit? Or maybe it's just a book that made you realize exactly how He wants you to live your life and be more like Him? I've tried a general search for this and two books that are mentioned a great deal...

    Bible choice - please advise!

I've decided to use three Bibles for our one year Bible study. Each day is between three and five chapters so I'd like to read three different transactions each day. I'm really loving the NASB '95 so it's definitely one of my three. The other translation I'm liking is the NLT. I know it's a...

    Bible choice - please advise!

What's funny is that many years back (maybe about 15 years ago) I asked everyone I talked to what translation I should avoid. Other than paraphrased Bibles, the first answer was always the NLT...the second answer was the NIV! So I guess the NIV is more accepted now? I know the readability is...

    Bible choice - please advise!

I appreciate everyone taking the time to respond and to answer my various questions. I've spent a good amount of time comparing various verses from all parts of the Bible in the translations you've mentioned as well as several others. For ease of understanding and fluid reading, I find 2...

    Bible choice - please advise!

I did a quick search of Bibles that contain the apocrypha and many of them say the Catholic version. Are Catholics the only ones that recognize more than 66 books in the Bible? Is the importance of the other books more for history, for understanding God/Jesus, or both? I appreciate you help...

    Bible choice - please advise!

I'm starting a one year Bible study with a group of friends using "The Bible Recap" as our guide (as far as reading the Bible on a daily basis in chronological order). I've researched the various translations and I know there are ones that are more "word for word" and others that are more...

    Best Study Bible?

Instead of a Study Bible, maybe I just need a somewhat larger print version of a Bible Commentary! I've got numerous translations of the Bible in larger print, I just need the "study" information to go along with it. So I figure with a Commentary, it might have larger print than the comments...

    Best Study Bible?

No, I wouldn't say that! I have a couple apps on my phone, but I want an actual hard copy of a Study Bible! Except for the fact I had trouble reading the one I have comfortably, I loved reading it the last two days. Having a hard copy makes me really get into the Word of God by keeping mr more...

    Best Study Bible?

Thanks for the information! I saw that an online Bible Bookstore had most of their HCSB Bibles on sale for about 80% off so I checked into the reasoning and discovered what you mentioned. In comparing the HCSB to the CSB I prefer the HCSB. I know that in the original text He, Him, etc...

    Best Study Bible?

After reading through various translations of the Bible I came to the conclusion that my favorites right now are the HCSB and the NKJV (with the NASB and ESV following those two). I currently have a Study Bible but back when I bought it (2007) my eyesight must have been a lot better than it is...

    Most Accurate Bible Translation Confusion....

Thank you! Of the two, I would agree...in most instances the NKJV reads more smoothly and offers as just as clear of understanding as the NASB. Also, in looking at the number of Bibles available (from a certain online Christian retailer), the NKJV is much more readily available (at least in...
