  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

If discrimination is wrong, that does not mean that anti-discrimination law should be used against it. Plenty of things are wrong but legal. Anti-discrimination laws were first introduced against systemic discrimination- the kind of situation where absolutely every business would racially...

Interesting. I don't know enough about the Israeli system to comment further.

No legal definition of marriage certainly is hard to imagine, but I'm told Israel doesn't even have civil marriage, so it's not completely unheard of.

"If you read an article about a couple who have been married for 60 years and are still happy and in love, do you sneer and say "That's not a real marriage." if you hear they never had children? Personally, I'd be impressed and cheered." I don't know how you get this from anything I wrote. As...

"Marriage is not only for children. Unless you propose that hetrosexual couples who can't have children shouldn't be bothered with marriage?" While children are the primary purpose of marriage, I wouldn't say that marriage is only for children. Obviously it has many other benefits. I would say...

A heart surgeon who doesn't understand that hearts are for pumping blood may make bad decisions. So it is with us; if we don't understand what marriage is for, we will make bad decisions about marriage. But I've talked long enough about that, and you raise an excellent point - it is true that...

I've been talking about why marriage exists as an institution and why it is such a constant throughout human history, not why individual couples get married, or what a given culture might think, so there is no contradiction here. Also re gays and lesbians in the past: SSM has been very rare...

Hi Shemjaza, I was talking about what marriage is, not what the law about marriage should be. These are separate questions; I think we agree on that much. Nevertheless SSM rhetoric clearly takes the view that marriage is about love rather than children. I've heard people say that marriage has...

Why does marriage exist and what is it for? - Sex exists to bring forth children. - Sexual attraction exists to make people want to have sex, thus bringing forth children. - Monogamy exists because children take a lot of time and effort to raise. - Marriage is the institutionalisation of...

I didn't know that only one side is allowed to argue on this forum. I don't post here very often. So I won't try to start a massive debate, but I'll make a couple of points. "Many people have differing opinions of the purpose of marriage, but unless those rules are universally applicable (and...

If you want to convince a "no" person to vote yes, start by formulating why marriage exists and what it is for, and why gay marriage is compatible with that understanding. Do you want to convince a "yes" person to vote no? Perhaps by asking these questions - what is a right? On what basis does...

A lot of articles from the "no" side focus on the risk to free speech, freedom of religion and so forth. While these are important, I feel that they are peripheral to the subject at hand. The pro-SSM side starts with this question: What are the rights of gays and lesbians? The "no" side starts...

    Lust is normal

I agree with sinneD. Lust is inappropriate sexual arousal, which ought to be avoided. The good stuff needs another name; I'm not sure what.

    You ever hear of "Honeytree"

I found out about Honeytree by raiding my parents music collection (and also from long car trips as a kid lol). They only have one of her albums - the self titled one I think - which I listen to very frequently. Has vanished from the Christian bookshops by now unfortunately. Can't even buy it...
