  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    This House Lies Desolate

Oh and that link you sent. I watched the trailer. It is very exciting to watch that. I'll tell you this: I am willing to carefully and slowly try to move towards the holy spirit working through me, but I don't see the need to leave my Church. My last minister, even though he was Anglican...

    This House Lies Desolate

Thank you very much for the practical advice. I'm very interested to try it, God willing.

    This House Lies Desolate

That is also tricky. I find it hard to pray while working. My job requires some attention while I'm doing it. During work I just try to keep my mind free from negative or sinful thoughts. When I get home I have prayer time. Thank you for your perspective on these things. People don't talk...

    This House Lies Desolate

I want to fast but I'm finding it near impossible. There is also the question of whether I will be able to do my job, which is 5-6 hours of walking every day. Prayers I'm doing decently in at least, but yes, fasting I'm not sure how to succeed in. And I am praying for help with fasting too.

    This House Lies Desolate

I read the opening post, and I listened to the accompanying video. Thank you for your words of reproof. I am sort of in the process of personal revival. By this I mean that I am trying to read the scriptures regularly (following a plan for now), but especially trying to pray more and to take...

    Understanding scripture

I have a commentary that I bought for the entire Bible called the "New Bible Commentary". One of the consulting editors is Don Carson, who is pretty well known. You can buy commentarys for each book of the Bible individually, but that would cost a lot of money and take a lot of shelf space. A...

    Amazing day on STR

I looked at most of the links you posted, and it seems like your points are pretty hard to argue against. Women's rights and Sharia law seem to be the major issue with multiculturalism, and I suppose it follows that women's rights are just one part of broader human rights. I guess I didn't...

    Amazing day on STR

Whats wrong with multiculturalism? Isn't it concerned with culture, not religion? Even if part of being multicultural means letting people keep religious beliefs, what is the alternative? Its not like we can force people to take up the faith - do we tell them to choose between being atheist...

    Hell

I guess anyone who hasn't accepted Christ as Lord, and who's name is not found in the book of life at the last judgment. A book I read about Revelation (called '666 and all that') said that there is a slim chance that someone who doesn't know Christ might still be saved - maybe that is what...

    Encouragement in these times :)

Great to hear that you are receiving encouragement from God. I hope God continues to comfort you through whatever times you are going through.

Its all the same in the end.

Thanks for your post. I still think even though you have described a difference, in practice it works out to be the same kind of life: - You need faith and works to be saved, so you work to know you are saved. - You need faith to be saved but works is the evidence of your faith, so you work to...

Its all the same in the end.

That's as good an answer as I could have hoped for, thank you wayseer. And thank you singpeace for the bible passages. I can see a lot of things in those verses that would be a good means for self evaluation, both regarding works and faith.

Its all the same in the end.

Thanks for your reply singpeace. I guess my question to you then is, how can we know for sure that we are saved? Can we? I bring up the issue of works because absolute certainty seems to be a Protestant belief regarding salvation by grace alone, where as I am told that Catholics, who believe...

Its all the same in the end.

Hi everyone. This thread concerns something that has always bothered me about salvation. Maybe I am wrong about this but its hard to see how I can be. Basically, isn't it the same -- in practice -- believing you are saved by grace to believing you are saved by grace and works? How? Like...

    2011 Bible Study - Exodus 1-3, Matthew 14:1-21

Jesus feeding the 5000 is probably one of his most famous miracles. First of all I think its funny how Jesus messes with his disciples heads when he tells them "You give them something to eat." They would have been thinking, "How are we gonna do that?!" I think Jesus is demonstrating through...
