Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who was elected to the Senate in 2003 and was a close political ally of President Donald Trump, has died, his office confirmed early Sunday. He was 71.

Graham died Saturday night “from a brief and sudden illness,” his office said in a statement.

“Senator Graham’s family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period,” the statement said.

Nothing more specific is known at the moment.

The reports say Senator Graham died after a short illness. The former Secretary of State is but a mere 5’4’’, but “illness” is pushing it.

Both McConnell and Lindsey suffered a cardiac arrest event within a month. They both were actively securing funds and arms for Ukraine. Interesting that Lindsay just came back from Ukraine to meet with President Zelensky. He announced that he and a bipartisan group of senators had officially reached an agreement with the White House on an updated version of their major Russia sanctions legislation.
While McConnell worked the other end by aggressive oversight—essentially forcing the Pentagon to actually spend and deploy the money Congress had already legally authorized for Ukraine.
Without Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham, the multi-billion-dollar packages, strategic defense partnerships, and legislative guardrails that have kept Ukraine supplied would likely have collapsed under growing political opposition. Together, they formed an indispensable two-front defense of the Ukraine agenda within a highly fractured Congress.
