  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump signs executive order classifying fentanyl as a ‘weapon of mass destruction’

Trump says his administration is “formally classifying fentanyl as a weapon of mass destruction, which is what it is. No bomb does what this is doing.”

It was not immediately clear how the new designation would affect administration policy or what the legal implications would be for those impacted by fentanyl use or drug traffickers.

I am expecting the raids of US hospitals that treat patients with fentanyl to commence shortly.

Forget Venezuela. War with China is imminent.
That is pretty weird. He's doing this with the threat of a ground war in Venezuela and blowing up "drug boats" in the Caribbean, but fentanyl doesn't come from Venezuela or the Caribbean...

I'm not sure what this means or how it can be... enforced? Like.... if someone is caught with some illegal fentanyl are they going to be charged with terrorism with a WMD? That's kind of insane.

It's not like the WMDs have to be in the country, or exist, for the US to invade because of them.

It wont be, executive orders are not laws.

illegal fentanyl kills hundreds of thousands of Americans. That sounds a lot like a weapon of mass destruction to me.
Is tobacco/nicotine also a weapon of mass destruction? How about alcohol. How many lives are destroyed by that substance every year? How many violent crimes committed under its influence? How many needless highway deaths?

Is nicotine and tobacco and alcohol illegal for adults?

I thought your point was that it was deadly.

Answer the question. Can those all be considered weapons of mass destruction?

And no, fentanyl isn’t illegal either. It is a prescribed pain medication. That makes it at least more medically useful than either tobacco or alcohol.

I’ll believe this administration is serious about this when they bring charges against the Sackler family.

Slow down with the crazy liberal communist hate America rhetoric.
Cars and guns kill way more people than, say, nucular weapons ever have. More than chemical weapons. They sound like a WMD on steroids to me.

Do you know they also use boats! to bring in cars into our country! I'm going the prepare a presentation to the UN so we can get a coalition of the willing fired up.

I don't know if "weapon" fits a substance which people freely take. I guess suicide fits, then.

It appears to me that some are excusing the hundreds of thousands of deaths caused by illegal fentanyl.
I’m trying to understand the logic where a medically useful drug is a “weapon of mass destruction” while equally deadly, much more widely used and available and much less useful illegal drugs somehow are not being treated the same. If you believe fentanyl is a WMD then how are you excusing alcohol and other harmful drugs? Shouldn’t they also be listed the same way? Your position is inconsistent.

I await the missile strikes on beer and cigarette trucks.
