  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Perhaps you should of lead with that instead of trying to deny the ideological leanings of your sources.
Have you read the facts and data in those articles?

Some of it. Still reviewing. So far it sees that it is very likely that if you are from an impoverished country you are likely to be poor. Not exactly ground breasting stuff here. If there are certain facts you feel are relevant, feel free to point them out. Happy to look at the areas you are highlighting having reviewed these articles.

What do you think about the facts showing the vast majority of Somalian immigrants in Minnesota are living off of government funds? Couple that with the billions of dollars of fraud by some Somalians in Minnesota and other states.

I have not seen that yet. I'll try to get some time to look at the article more in depth. It would be useful in the future if you could identify which article it is in. Thanks in advance. :wave:

So, we allow in prople from third world countries, who are mostly likely poor, u educated, can't speak the language, have no measurable skills, come from places run by Islamists, and have considerably different cultural norms and values, including criminal activities and we expect what exactly? That they are going to assimilate or that they arw going to continue to behave the way they did in the country where they are from? What exactly are they offering to do for this country except to come and make it like the crappy place they came from? Complain about us? Not show one iota of gratefulness?

Why would anyone feel grateful running into attitudes like this?

Why would anyone have an attitude like this for anyone who is behaving like that? Let's say you invited me over for dinner. I came over and then trashed your house, stole your money, wouldn't talk to you because I can't speak your language, disrespected your wife, and then complained that whatever you fed me wasn't good enough. Then I demanded to come over the next night for the same thing and I wanted to bring 50 of my friends to do the same thing.

And you didn't like that. Who has the wrong attitude? You or me? So, according to you, you are the bad guy in that situation. Is that right?

I came from Somalia at 19. Let me tell you about the America I met.

<excerpt>

"Years passed, and my assumptions about life in America kept collapsing. I enrolled in a federally funded job training program, where I started out learning to be an electrician and left with a path to college. I studied public affairs at a public university while working about 30 hours a week as a bus driver. I interned at a federal agency in Washington. I graduated with high distinction and was chosen to give the commencement speech for my class.

People opened doors for me. They offered mentorship without expecting anything in return. They connected me to opportunities I did not know existed. In college, I spent a semester in D.C. as part of a leadership program funded by a generous American sponsor. Later, I studied abroad, financed by another generous American who did not even know my name. I graduated and started working for a Fortune 500 company. I continued my education further than I ever imagined possible, all the way to a top business school in this country.

Along the way, I eventually accepted a truth that would have sounded impossibly naive to my 19-year-old self: America really does try to live up to its ideals."

Most Americans welcome the immigrant....despite what you hear from Donald J Trump and some of his supporters.
