  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Paid for by the government with the endless supply of money, even though there are more people dependent on government assistance. But I guess that’s the goal, create more people that are dependent on the government who will vote for the party that gives them the handouts.

The point of the school was to teach them to better themselves.

My wife is a 4th grade teacher and her students tell her that they will not have to work because they can get a check
Is that really the life lesson that immigrants teach their kids? The lazy folks I've known like that wouldn't have been inclined to move thousands of miles for a better life.

Also, the fact that you and your wife both make your livings off of this government largesse is not lost on me.

My living? By your own admission people who have never contributed anything to the system can get government assistance. Where is mine? I started working when I was 16, I worked for 45 years. I have PTSD, I was encouraged to apply for disability 18 years ago, but I chose to keep working. I worked until September 25th 2024. The nerve pain in my leg was so bad that the health nurse sent me home. I had surgery but it only got worse. I haven’t been able to walk without crutches or a walker for over a year. I’m still waiting on a decision for if I qualify for disability. From what I’ve read I doubt that I will get it. Even if I do it will not be enough to live on, I will have to find something I can do part time that doesn’t require standing or walking. I don’t qualify for any government assistance. I took money out of my IRA to live off of. Neither party helps me. Where is government assistance for people who have worked all their lives and can no longer work? It goes to people who have never contributed anything

You were a cop, weren't you? That's what I was referring to. Part of this largesse in taking care of more and more people goes to fund the salaries of government employees, like you and your wife.

What about taking care of me? I contributed. I paid taxes. My plan was to keep working until I turned 70, now I can’t do that. Where is my government assistance?

According to the numbers you put up, you should be about 62, which would mean you’re eligible for social security. Don’t you also have a pension and/or disability insurance through your employer? I know you said you’re waiting on the government disability approval, but from your description, that should be something you’re eligible for, even if it takes a while.

Yeah it really put a strain on our resources letting those 90 people in our country
It's not about the "resources", but the blatant racism of the administration.

If I don't get disability I will draw Social Security but will still have to work part time. But my SS is money that I paid in.
And what little I have left in my IRA is money that I paid in.
Neither of those is money that the government is giving me.
It's my money that I paid in.
The insurance I had from my employer paid short term disability for 3 months. They denied long term disability because they said it was a preexisting condition They admitted that the cellulitis, lymphedema and complications from surgery were not preexisting but still found a way not to pay.
Again, insurance is something that I paid for, it's not a handout
My employer held my job for 9 months, hoping that I would come back, but I wasn't able

I guess you didn’t follow the conversation
I believe I did. You claimed that people will come here, get low paying jobs, and live off government assistance. Was there some clarifying remarks I missed?

Some will be on government assistance as @iluvatar5150 and I were discussing. He thinks more people on government assistance creates jobs and that we need them to come here and have lots of children

Every economic assessment of our situation I have seen agrees with him. More workers equals more GDP and greater revenue. That does not change that the underlying assumption that people will come and live off free handouts is biased and disproven by real world data. The vast majority that come here work hard to achieve heir dreams. That is the American dream, is it not?
