  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can we agree that Trump currently shows very similar signs of advanced age to what Biden showed during his term? I'm not going to try to quibble over who is/was "worse," but if one thinks that Biden was senile based on his speech patterns and actions, then one must also conclude that Trump is also senile, and vice versa.

For what it's worth, I didn't think Biden was senile during his presidency, and I don't think Trump is senile now - they're both showing signs of being old, which makes sense because they are old. But it comes across as very disingenuous when people who were (and still are) screeching vehemently about Biden being a senile old man dismiss the same behaviors from Trump and declare him "sharp as a tack."
I say they are in cognitive decline. Being senile would require a diagnosis I believe.
I believe Biden is worse but with Trump everything is beautiful, the best ever, the greatest ever, I can tell a difference with him compared to years before.
But it's another poster or two in this thread who are claiming that decline exists in Trump but not in Biden

There's one person saying that Biden was fine, and his whole schtick as a poster is just denying anything that conservatives say (still not sure if he genuinely believes it every time he says something "never happened," because some of them make even me go "Ehhhh...."). Everyone else is just saying that Trump is worse than Biden ever was - which is a wholly subjective statement, and is completely pointless to argue in the context of this discussion (i.e. as a reason why people might have chosen to vote for Biden over Trump in 2020).

Yes, Biden beat Trump, but his mental decline was so bad over the next 4 years his own party deemed him unfit to run for office.
The only president who was less popular than Trump at this point in his second term? Richard Nixon, who had an approval rating of -36 points just a few months before he resigned from office. “Anywhere you look this is the second-worst for a president of either party in their second term dating all the way back since the 1940s,”

Seems like most Americans have concluded the same thing about Drowsy Don.

Trump had an unexplained MRI and a test which is often used to diagnose dementia recently. He says he "aced" it, being able to distinguish a giraffe from an elephant.

Who, for all his other failings, was obviously not suffering from dementia. And he was willing to make the Epstein files public, which is a step up from the present president.

Trump's first term, he had lower approval than Biden's term.

Donald Trump's presidential approval rating stood at only 45 percent after 100 days in office, the lowest among recent presidents. The only lower score listed by Gallup was achieved by Trump in his first term. Then, his approval was only at 41 percent after 100 days. In comparison, Joe Biden - also considered a rather unpopular U.S. president - scores higher

Let's take a look...

Scholars release official ranking of US presidents. See where Biden and Trump fall
The ranking resulted from the 2024 Presidential Greatness Project Expert Survey, which questioned 154 members of the American Political Science Association who specialize in presidential politics.

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/national/article285691301.html#storylink=cpy

Fox News weighs in:

New presidential rankings place Obama in top 10, Reagan and Trump below Biden

Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush and Trump were more likely to be ranked higher by conservatives or Republicans, with Reagan being ranked an average of 5th by Republicans respondents, Bush 19th and Trump 41st.
...
A similar partisan divide was noticeable for Barack Obama and President Biden, who ranked an average of 6th and 13th, respectively, among Democrat respondents, and 15th and 30th by Republicans.

Even republican historians put Biden well above Trump.

He couldn't even get a second term, he was forced out of running because it became obvious he couldn't beat Trump.

And yet he succeeded in the job where Trump has failed. That's what eats at Trump, now. He'll never get over it. Even republican historians put Biden far above Trump. And by now, Trump has declined too far to hope for a recovery.

He succeeded in flooding the country with illegal immigrants and out of control inflation.

He succeeded in flooding the country with illegal immigrants
06/26/2024 10:36 AM EDT

The number of migrants illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border has plummeted 40 percent since President Joe Biden clamped down on asylum earlier this month, administration officials said Wednesday.

Daily crossings have fallen below 2,400. That’s the lowest level since Jan. 17, 2021, right before the president took office. But encounters still remain too high for the president’s newly implemented restrictions to be lifted: Migrants will continue to be barred from seeking asylum in between ports of entry until average border crossings have fallen below 1,500 for seven consecutive days.

C'mon.

and out of control inflation.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, prices for food are 2.45% higher in 2025 versus 2024 (a $0.49 difference in value).
Between 2024 and 2025: Food experienced an average inflation rate of 2.45% per year. This rate of change indicates significant inflation.

Since early 2025, tariffs have returned to the center of U.S. trade policy debates. In this blog post, we take a close look at how these developments have started to show up in consumer prices—particularly in the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index, the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation measure.

While headline PCE inflation has increased only modestly in recent months, the categories of goods most exposed to international trade tell a different story. In the U.S., prices for durable goods—such as vehicles, electronics and furniture—have increased noticeably. These price movements align with the timing of tariff hikes earlier this year. The figure below shows this divergence, plotting the evolution of the headline PCE price index and durable goods PCE price index, in percent deviations from January 2024, relative to their linear trends estimated using data for 2024.

This is another reason why even republican historians rate Biden as a much better president than Trump.

Biden waited 3 and a half years before he took action to slow down the flow of illegal immigration at the border, all the while telling us he couldn’t do anything without congress. He only took action because the election was coming up.
Now Trump was not my first choice and much of your criticism is deserved but your posts are delusional when it comes to Biden and nobody cares what 150 so called experts rate the presidents.

Inflation Under Biden vs. Trump: A Data-Driven ComparisonInflation, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), tracks the average change in prices for a basket of goods and services. Presidents influence inflation indirectly through fiscal policies, but external factors like global events, supply chain disruptions, and Federal Reserve actions play major roles. Donald Trump's first term (2017–2021) occurred during a period of stable, low inflation pre-COVID, while Joe Biden's term (2021–2025) began amid pandemic recovery and saw a sharp spike before cooling. For context, Trump's second term began in January 2025, but as of December 2025, it has been too short to yield a full-term comparison—current year-over-year inflation hovers around 3%, similar to late 2024 levels under Biden.Key MetricsHere's a side-by-side comparison of average annual inflation rates (year-over-year CPI) and cumulative price increases. Data is sourced from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and analyses from economic outlets. Averages for Trump reflect his first term only; Biden's covers the full four years.
MetricTrump (2017–2021)Biden (2021–2025)Notes
Average Annual Inflation Rate1.9–2.5%4.9–5.0%Trump's low average benefited from steady pre-2020 growth; 2020 dipped to 1.2% due to pandemic recession. Biden's higher average was driven by a 2022 peak of 9.1% (highest in 40 years), fueled by stimulus spending, supply shocks, and the Ukraine war.
Cumulative CPI Increase~7.8–8%~19–21.5%Prices rose modestly under Trump (e.g., gas from ~$2.40/gallon in 2017 to $2.17 in 2020). Under Biden, overall prices surged (e.g., gas hit $5+ in 2022 before falling to ~$3.50 by 2025), eroding real wages by ~4% when adjusted for inflation.
Peak Year-Over-Year Rate2.4% (2018)9.1% (June 2022)Trump's peak was near the Fed's 2% target; Biden's reflected global pressures but declined to 2.9% by December 2024.
Recent Trends (2024–2025)N/A (pre-second term)2.9% (Dec 2024); core (ex-food/energy): 3.2%Early 2025 under Trump: 3% year-over-year (up slightly from Biden's end), with core at 3% (modest decline). Wages have outpaced inflation so far in 2025.
Annual Breakdown for ContextTo illustrate the volatility, here's the annual average CPI inflation by year:
YearPresidentAnnual Inflation Rate
2017Trump2.1%
2018Trump2.4%
2019Trump1.8%
2020Trump1.2%
2021Biden4.7%
2022Biden8.0%
2023Biden4.1%
2024Biden2.9%
2025Trump2.7–3.0% (through Sep)
Broader Context and Caveats
  • Why the difference? Trump's term saw low energy prices, deregulation, and tax cuts that supported growth without overheating. Biden inherited a recovering economy but faced COVID stimulus effects (e.g., $1.9T American Rescue Plan), labor shortages, and energy shocks from Russia's 2022 invasion. Inflation cooled under Biden via Fed rate hikes (from near-zero to 5.25–5.5%), but cumulative effects lingered.
  • Public Perception vs. Reality: Despite cooling, 2022's spike made inflation a top voter issue in 2024, with many blaming Biden despite shared pandemic roots. Early 2025 data shows stability under Trump, but proposed tariffs could raise prices in the future.
  • Not Just Presidential Control: Economists emphasize that no president "causes" inflation alone—the Fed sets rates, and global events dominate.
Overall, inflation was markedly higher and more volatile under Biden than under Trump's first term, though both eras highlight how external shocks shape outcomes more than policy alone. For the latest monthly data, check the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
