  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A majority of pastors are now using artificial intelligence to prepare their sermons, with ChatGPT and Grammarly reported as the top two AI tools, new survey data shows.

"ChatGPT is the most visible generative AI tool that can engage in human-like conversations and assist with a wide range of tasks, from answering questions to generating content," researchers wrote in "The 2025 State of AI in the Church Survey Report" prepared by AiForChurchLeaders.comand Exponential AI NEXT.

“As the most popular AI tool among church leaders (26%), ChatGPT is being used for applications such as sermon preparation, research, and crafting church communications. Its versatility and ease of use make it a powerful asset for streamlining ministry work and sparking creative ideas."

The data, based on responses from 594 pastors and church staff members, shows that church leaders are now more concerned about "the weighty ethical and practical considerations involved" in the use of AI as they continue their rapid embrace of the technology.

So now AI is more reliable than the Holy Spirt? Some pastors may want to revisit their calling.

I can understand why they might use AI for sermon preparation for example.

If I wanted all OT references which hinted at the coming of Christ for example, it would be laborious to do all the research myself.

AI would generate dozens of them in a flash.

Obviously a pastor couldn't squeeze them all in one sermon, but they would give him the basic information.

What he would need to do is ensure those OT quotes he was actually going to use were accurate.

I'd argue most pastors aren't "called" in the first place. This is just more proof of that.

Just when you think things couldn't get any worse... and then you're surprised when it does. Maybe I'm too optimistic? What's next? We taking our spiritual teachings from animals now when the world creates their first ever animal translator? ... scratch that, I don't want to give people ideas...

There can be some useful uses of AI, such as if a pastor pens a sermon and runs it through AI to be tighten up to help beat the Catholics to the restaurant.

This is bad. What I have seen of AI so far is often blathering idiocy and often enough downright error.

I just finished reading an AI explanation of the difference between Vitamin C and ascorbic acid. It's pretty simple, actually in that they have the same exact chemical formula but Vitamin C is the left handed chiral form of ascorbic acid. The synthetic stuff comes in a mixture of right and left chiral forms. AI was lost in the fog trying to explain that.

I worry that AI will further confuse already confused pastors and spread that confusion to their people. That happened before AI but this takes even less effort with AI dishing out garbage.
