  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Those ones aren't, but they certainly can be.

Donald Trump Reveals New DC National Mall Project to Fix ‘Biden Filth’

In a post to Truth Social accompanied by a video, the president posted, "This is the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool before Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and I fix it. Study it hard because you won’t be seeing this Biden filth and incompetence much longer!"

President Donald Trump has argued with the architect he handpicked to design a White House ballroom over the size of the project, reflecting a conflict between architectural norms and Trump’s grandiose aesthetic, according to four people who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe internal conversations.

Trump replaces architect overseeing $300m gilded ballroom project

Donald Trump has replaced the architect originally selected to oversee his $300m planned gilded ballroom.

According to the Washington Post, which first reported the news on Thursday and cited three people familiar with the matter, architect James McCrery II and his boutique firm had been leading the project for more than three months, up until late October.

The president and McCrery disagreed at times, particularly over Trump’s interest in expanding the 90,000-sq-ft ballroom’s size, the Washington Post reported. However, it was ultimately the firm’s limited staff and missed deadlines that prompted the change, one person said.

Trump has now selected Shalom Baranes as the project’s new architect, which the White House confirmed. [His] previous work includes significant federal projects such as the main Treasury building near the White House

Whatever you do, don't go to Neiman Marcus, in San Francisco. You'll hate it.
Good job quoting something authentically from the OG Gilded Age.

a time of materialistic excesses marked by widespread political corruption.

It’s not the concept of gilding that is tacky, it’s Trump’s use of it. Look at the Oval Office. Gold vomitted all over the interior with the only decor intention being add as much gold to every surface as possible.

...and now he wants to re-do Dulles Airport....(will he rename it too?)

You have that correct. I would definitely hate the style. (That's after I already hated the notion of N-M.) Some neo-classical based style with gilt baubles. Perhaps a touch of the vomit inducing Rococo. :vomit:

My favorite architecture is literally a reaction to this gaudy excess.

Hollywood's Golden Age, is said to be a reflection of the American Gilded Age, but both could equally be considered reflections of Classical Athens, and the Italian Renaissance, which also inspired the style of Vatican City... None of these things should be considered bad or wrong, in and of themselves.

I happen to like the fine arts in both architecture and style.

You're not into Late Boroque?

Architecture I find least appealing would be anything by Frank Lloyd Wright. He was responsible for the Marin County Civic center, which is plain awful.

no. It might be the most vomit inducing architecture of them all

SMH. To be so wrong...

The wiki isn't giving me a lot of detailed shots, but it looks interesting. (It is also more than 50 years into his career.)

The question is what is appropriate for "the People's House"? A robber baron's palace that would make Hearst blush, or something less conspicuously ostentatious?
