  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump dispenses with trials, orders military strike on alleged Venezuelan drug-trafficking boat (Now up to 2, 3, 4...)

They are? Or they're very enthusiastically trying to engage in political theater?

Because if one was so concerned about smuggling and trafficking, one probably shouldn't have pardoned the president of Honduras, Ross Ulbright (the Silk Road guy), or Jean Pinkard.

That's because your perspective on government power is myopic and only focused on the short-term. You've abandoned the notion of rights as principles to uphold and instead only want them wielded in a self-serving manner, to get you what you want.

That's always been the perspective on "rights" of a large faction of the right; it just hasn't been quite so clear until recently.

If you understood rights and laws as principles rather than merely means to a desired near-term outcome, then none of this would be bizarre to you at all.
Or it's just that I don't have a problem with combatting invading foreign terrorist drug smugglers and human traffickers.

Yeah I just saw a Reuters article about it that came out today.
Right, so maybe Pete Hegseth is not the most reliable source of information.

But I know certain people want to portray them as innocent victims.
The main matter is that their killings were unlawful (or certainly appear so). However, they are presumed innocent. We have a process for establishing guilt; it was not followed.

Gotta love fighting for state sanctioned murder.
One wonders what color is the sky is in the world where combatting invading foreign terrorist drug smugglers and human traffickers is considered sanctioned murder.

The sky is blue where extra-judicial killing of criminal suspects is considered illegal.

But the sun is setting on the rule of law. So dark skies ahead.

Right, so maybe Pete Hegseth is not the most reliable source of information.
I forget, did that Reuters article confirm that Hegseth said "kill everyone"?
The main matter is that their killings were unlawful (or certainly appear so). However, they are presumed innocent. We have a process for establishing guilt; it was not followed.
Poppycock. It's just more anti-trump theater in a long line of productions. Once this one plays out, another show will open.

Apparently, it's not only laws that you're wanting to be employed in a self-serving way; it's language, too:

Guys in a fishing boat, even if they are trafficking drugs, are neither "invaders" nor "terrorists." I haven't seen any allegations that they were human traffickers, either (why would you blow them up if they were carrying innocent victims?)

You're bending things however you like in order to justify your immediate desires. Truth and consistency don't matter as long as you get your preferred outcome.

No, drug smuggling and human trafficking is being combatted on numerous fronts. But apparently some folks are very displeased action is being taken. Apparently they want an administration that does nothing about it.

Why does the alternative to this have to be "nothing"? Thats what we in the trade call a false dichotomy.

Nobody is "invading". These aren't "terrorists". As noted, what you're presenting is a false dichotomy. It's just a bunch of nonsense in order to justify your preferred outcome.

Was there this much consternation over Obama's bomber drones? Or did he make sure those getting blasted in Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia had a trial first?

Okay right, smuggling drugs into the US from forgin country isn't an invasion. And Narco cartels are in no way terrorist. Sure thing.

At least he knew their names and they hadn't surrendered.

No, they want interdiction like the Coast Guard is carrying out in the Pacific without killing survivors in the water just to please Trump's Christian base.

Like I said earlier, come out here where the killing is happening and give us a hand. I have 4 empty racks available and the chow isn't too bad. The Marines are mostly potty trained and we have internet. We can always use more heroes on the machine guns.

The rooms aren't too bad but then, I'm a department head.

You wold get bunk beds, but still an officer stateroom.
Man, they treat you guys pretty good these days. Whenever I go on vacation and step away from the pool bar long enough to tour an old ship from back when Men fought wars, the berths I see are all hammocks sized for skinny short guys strung up between steam pipes and torpedo racks. No wonder our SecWar is complaining about you all being so soft and tubby.

One could just as easily say that some people are obviously putting on a show about being concerned over laws they're not really familiar with, and claiming taking out invading terrorists
Dude, where are they invading? They’re off the coast of their own countries in South America.
is murder in favor of terrorist drug smugglers and human traffickers.
If they’re trafficking people then there’s undoubtedly innocent life aboard these ships being ordered to be killed by our military. Collateral damages, right?
