  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Reading that back it sounds harsher than when it was in my head.

Apologies.
Apologies so graciously presented are of course accepted.

Terrorism concerns us all and I think people have a right to know, whether the terrorist entered our country legally or illegally. We once had a suspicious guy here who entered legally, two people here tried over and over to get the federal government to act, making it clear to them the guy was taking lessons to fly a large aircraft but insisted he had no interest in learning how to land. The feds would take initiate investigative action.
Yeah but we all know that your threads have a common theme, immigrants who commit crimes, even though the majority of Americans are actually murdered by Americans. Your threads are almost always anti immigrant related.

Reports identified the suspect as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who is said to have entered the country in 2021 during the Biden administration. Little is known about Lakanwal, who reportedly used a handgun in the shooting. He reportedly entered the United States as part of former president Biden’s Operation Allies Welcome in the wake of the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal.
President Trump gave a speech about the terror attack, where he spoke of lifting up our prayers to those shot and their families. He spoke of the "20 million unknown and un-vetted foreigners" let in by the Biden administration, and renewed efforts to stop such actions of terror by stepping up the investigation of these people.
There is a problem with reading sites with a far right bias and hurriedly claiming things are the fault of those one disagrees with . The right in particular is quick to pass judgement on Biden or Democratic Party members.

The Afghan national accused of shooting two National Guard members near the White House this week underwent thorough vetting by counterterrorism authorities before entering the United States, according to people with direct knowledge of the case.
Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, arrived in the U.S. through Operation Allies Welcome (OAW), a Biden-era program that helped resettle Afghan nationals after the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

Do you really think that the CIA didn't know much about Lakanwal in order to work with him in hostile territory?

AI overview

  • Circa 2011: Lakanwal began working with the U.S. government, including the CIA, as a member of a partner force (known as the "Zero Units") in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
  • August/September 2021: The U.S. military withdrew from Afghanistan, and the Taliban seized control.
  • September 8, 2021: Lakanwal arrived in the United States through Operation Allies Welcome (OAW), a program to resettle vulnerable Afghans. He was granted parole status and settled in Bellingham, Washington, with his family.
  • December 2024: He applied for asylum in the U.S..
  • April 2025: Lakanwal was granted asylum. He also had an active Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) application at the time.
  • November 2025 (prior to the shooting): He drove across the country from Washington state to Washington, D.C..

So he was granted asylum in April 2025, under the Trump administration. If they felt he was a risk, they could have refused asylum. Trump doesn't want to admit it, but that is the truth.

From what I gather, just three days before the incident, there was a flurry of Google searches on Rahmanullah Lakanwal.

The suspicion is that some entity was checking to make sure all tracks were covered.

Anything to back that up?

Perhaps, as DC has been a Democratic stronghold, this should not have occurred:

WASHINGTON, Oct 16 (Reuters) - The Trump administration plans to shift terrorism prevention funding from Democratic-led states toward those led by Republicans, government records show, as it overhauls a $1 billion program created after the 9/11 attacks.
Twelve Democratic-led states are suing to block the cuts, alleging that the Trump administration is trying to punish them for not cooperating with federal immigration agents.

I also wonder if a more experienced person could have been in this role and if the shooting could have been prevented:

His career blastoff came quickly. A year after graduation, the 22-year-old with no apparent national security expertise is now a Department of Homeland Security official overseeing the government’s main hub for terrorism prevention, including an $18 million grant program intended to help communities combat violent extremism.
The White House appointed Fugate, a former Trump campaign worker who interned at the hard-right Heritage Foundation, to a Homeland Security role that was expanded to include the Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships. Known as CP3, the office has led nationwide efforts to prevent hate-fueled attacks, school shootings and other forms of targeted violence.

I use terms like "I gather" and "the suspicion is" for a reason.

Someone with real expertise would have made those checks in ways that would not have been apparent to people with real expertise.

And then you tell us about someone without real expertise.

By 'anything to back that up', I mean an article or a statement from someone with particular knowledge or such. That is all. I think it would be helpful to have that to understand the situation.
