  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Clearly you are wrong.

This is funny.

Before Trump was even president. It dates from the Biden era.
other quotes from the article:
" WASHINGTON - Total violent crime for 2024 in the District of Columbia is down 35% from 2023 and is the lowest it has been in over 30 years"
Yes, under the Biden administration crime went down. Sans deployement of the National Guard.

"In addition to the overall violent crime reduction, homicides are down 32%; robberies are down 39%; armed carjackings are down 53%; assaults with a dangerous weapon are down 27% when compared with 2023 levels, with the District reporting the fewest assaults with dangerous weapons and burglaries in over 30 years."
Tell me how necessary it was to dispatch the NG.

I have read it. And yes, it comes from an incredibly left leaning source that fabricated nonsense. The only sources that liberals trust. If it was an actual source that was honest, liberals would immediately dismiss it as propaganda. Remind me how many young black kids have been murdered since Trump sent the national guard. Not that it matters to anyone but Trump and MAGA conservatives.
Oh?
All the sudden the source you brandished is untrustworthy and fabricates its data? And you (you alone) have access to that data?
And you don't want to share it, you prefer to spread misinformation? Knowingly, willfully and on purpose?
The bible says something about spreading false information. It has even be carved in stone with a flaming finger.

And killed two people in the Trump administration. The question is: which one of Trump’s policies caused him to kill?
I have to disagree here. There is currently nothing that indicates that any of the Trump policies pushed that man to kill. It's an option among many, but certainly not an established fact.

Even an infant could have told Trump that those soldiers would have a target on their backs being deployed in that way.

Putting soldiers on a street makes them a target. Civilians invariably see them as an occupying force. Even when it’s their own troops.

I think that the way afghans that had an entitlement to flee their country have been treated by the west is quite shameful. They have worked with the western nations, provided valuable services, and now that they are no longer useful and at risk by the Taliban, they are treated like hot garbage at best and an active security risk at worst. While the taliban get courted and accepted back onto the world stage, those collaborators are treated like they are the real terrorists.

Without condoning this attack, I can understand the frustration and how it might push some people to a breaking point.

That might be true "in general", but there is currently too little information available to claim that it is applicable here.

Can you provide an example of *anyone* "feeling sorry for the guy"?
Anything less than screaming for their lynching is being too soft-hearted.

That is a point. At first glace, we might think he should be grateful to have been given the chance to leave--most often, the US abandons the people who helped us when we evacuate a combat location, as we did when leaving Syria on Trump's watch.

We don't know who this man left behind or how he's been feeling about that. It could be a particular kind of survivor's guilt.

There are reports he was assigned to unit tasked by the CIA.

Mr. Lakanwal was raised in a village in the province of Khost in southeastern Afghanistan, growing up in a country at war. At some point, he joined a Zero Unit, according to a person briefed on the investigation and an Afghan intelligence officer familiar with the matter. Zero Units, which were formally part of the Afghan intelligence service but operated outside the usual chain of command, were largely recruited, trained, equipped and overseen by the C.I.A., according to Human Rights Watch.

These units specialized in night raids and clandestine missions; Taliban officials and human rights groups described them as “death squads.”

.....

A childhood friend, who asked to be identified only as Muhammad because he feared Taliban reprisals, said that Mr. Lakanwal had suffered from mental health issues and was disturbed by the casualties his unit had caused.

“He would tell me and our friends that their military operations were very tough, their job was very difficult, and they were under a lot of pressure,” Muhammad said.

..the horrors of war play out in tragic way, years later.

Civilians throughout history have always been an occupied people. It would be considered delusional to think we are not under constant control and surveillance but convincing ourselves otherwise is how the system has always worked throughout time.

Reports identified the suspect as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who is said to have entered the country in 2021 during the Biden administration. Little is known about Lakanwal, who reportedly used a handgun in the shooting. He reportedly entered the United States as part of former president Biden’s Operation Allies Welcome in the wake of the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal.
President Trump gave a speech about the terror attack, where he spoke of lifting up our prayers to those shot and their families. He spoke of the "20 million unknown and un-vetted foreigners" let in by the Biden administration, and renewed efforts to stop such actions of terror by stepping up the investigation of these people.
So he came here legally? And the only reason you’re mentioning this is because he’s an immigrant who committed a crime?

Terrorism concerns us all and I think people have a right to know, whether the terrorist entered our country legally or illegally. We once had a suspicious guy here who entered legally, two people here tried over and over to get the federal government to act, making it clear to them the guy was taking lessons to fly a large aircraft but insisted he had no interest in learning how to land. The feds would take initiate investigative action.
