  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What are you trying to prove with this? That crime was already down before Trump took office? Before deployment of NG in DC?

Sounds like the NG deployment was unnecessary after all.

Everyone knows that you can't trust the Biden regimes numbers.

Clearly you are wrong.

lol, you should probably read more than just the headline of a piece before presenting it as evidence. Not that any of it supported your argument (it didn’t), but merely getting through the first sentence would’ve provided two different dates highlighting your problem.

Who ordered this deployment? Who is the Commander in Chief of our armed forces? We have to ask if this deployment is worth the risk to our troops. Risking confrontation like this just to have the guard posted next to national monuments and picking up trash around the city seems unwise.
Many government employees risk their lives every day to prevent violent crime. People have banded together in countries and agreed on laws rather than submit to anarchy. Additionally, this was an act of terrorism. Many acts of terrorism are focused on civilians.

If only this kind of passion could be directed at J6 people who injured police.

But Im sure it's all performative anyways.

You keep saying it was needless as if you care nothing about all the black kids who were being murdered in streets of DC.
They don't patrol in those neighborhoods where most of the black kids live. They have a base in Anacostia but don't patrol there.

I have read it. And yes, it comes from an incredibly left leaning source that fabricated nonsense. The only sources that liberals trust. If it was an actual source that was honest, liberals would immediately dismiss it as propaganda. Remind me how many young black kids have been murdered since Trump sent the national guard. Not that it matters to anyone but Trump and MAGA conservatives.

I have read it.

So, what then? You failed to comprehend it and how it didn't support your claim? I'm not sure how that's any better.

And yes, it comes from an incredibly left leaning source that fabricated nonsense. The only sources that liberals trust. If it was an actual source that was honest, liberals would immediately dismiss it as propaganda.

lol, yes, it's us big bad libs' fault that you failed here. Our standards for evidence are so stringent that you were compelled to post an official DOJ report that didn't remotely support the claim you were using it to make. I'm sorry. I'll be more permissive in the future. Feel free to link to Washington Beacon or Breitbart or Infowars in the future.

Remind me how many young black kids have been murdered since Trump sent the national guard. Not that it matters to anyone but Trump and MAGA conservatives.

Why don't you tell me how many there have been?

Oh wait, I did that leg work for you, too: According to the MPD, there have been 62 murders in DC since he sent in the NG and 132 in all of 2025. It's been 6 months since the guard was sent in and 62 in six months and 61 in the preceding 5 months, so that would appear to represent a modest decline. But that modest decline is over a fairly short time window and was that's set against a murder rate that, as your link pointed out, was already declining sharply.

So did his NG deployment help? Maybe a little. Though if you want to get really cynical with numbers - if you credit him with all of that decline I just mentioned, and if you assume that this NG attack wouldn't have happened without this deployment, then if they die, that'd be enough to wipe out at a quarter of that difference.

Yes, he entered the US under the Biden administration's Allies Welcome Program in 2021, but he didn't apply for asylum, which is a totally separate and unrelated process, until 2024. His vetting and asylum approval in April of this year occurred during the Trump administration.

That's why every single person who entered under Biden's Allies Welcome Program in 2021, must be re-vetted under the current administration's standards. Since obviously credibility can no longer be assumed accurate under the previous administration's standards.

Reports identified the suspect as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who is said to have entered the country in 2021 during the Biden administration. Little is known about Lakanwal, who reportedly used a handgun in the shooting. He reportedly entered the United States as part of former president Biden’s Operation Allies Welcome in the wake of the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal.
President Trump gave a speech about the terror attack, where he spoke of lifting up our prayers to those shot and their families. He spoke of the "20 million unknown and un-vetted foreigners" let in by the Biden administration, and renewed efforts to stop such actions of terror by stepping up the investigation of these people.

They will find a way to blame Trump.

For the shooting? No. For the needless deployment people have been arguing against for several months now? Yes, I am. Who else would there be to blame for that?

To save black kids from getting shot, yes.
How many black kids have they saved? This sounds like it’s something you’ve been following very closely.

I wonder if his previous CIA affiliation and resulting immigration came with a price of recall for future use
That caused me to raise an eyebrow. This is not an ordinary crook or even an ordinary Muslim terrorist.

If it's a false flag attack, I still can't guess which fly he is flying under.

If someone would have tried that in Russia they would be in torture. Here in the US they have Democrats feeling sorry for the guy.

Seventy convictions... No Democrats feeling sorry for the poor lady set of fire!

So now the vetting is politicized. I am not swayed by politicians or emotions but rather the data. First, we have to ask: Is there anything in this guys history that would preclude him from coming to the USA? To be sure, it is possible that even the most pristine records, can commit terror. To my knowledge I have not heard of any red flags. He worked in counter-terrorism, with a group that included the CIA. So all this talk about vetting might have done nothing in this case. But of course it is fine to double check everything.

A good solution for all refugees would be to require periodic monitoring. This would mean that even after being given a visa, the alien would have to touch base with immigration officials. Something as simply as asking what they are currently doing, what struggles do you currently have and is there anything we can do to be of assistance? At least this gives the USA a chance to thwart those with mental health issues. American civilian life is so different from afghan military life that of course there is going to be some issues with a few. Another way would be to require at risk foreigners to have a sponsor. Many already have one for finances, but we could also have a different type to help with assimilation. Most are not singles coming over here with no family. But specifically in those cases where they are single, and from countries that are hotspots we need more monitoring. Having lived overseas, some countries require you to check in with immigration periodically. Some too give interviews about what you are doing, and why are you here etc. Mostly, this is done to reveal if your visa status is correct but I am sure that if anyone answers poorly that they scrutinized even more.

Certainly, U.S. authorities will learn more abouot this guy. Perhaps he learned to hate the USA since arriving? maybe living in such a liberal place like bellingham, WA. he flipped back to seeking more traditional values? regardless, knee jerk reactions are just that. Let's figure out the data and try to identify red flags better and monitor those who are expecially at risk when they come to the USA. I can't say for Afgans as a group that enter the USA, but in general crime from foriegners in the USA is less than from USA natural born citizens. To make sure this was correct I asked google ai:

"Research consistently indicates that foreign-born individuals have lower crime rates than citizens born in the United States. This finding holds across various types of offenses, including violent crimes and homicides."

This does not excuse this former soldier. Few are as innocent as the two guardsmen that he shot. May God have mercy on us all.

And killed two people in the Trump administration. The question is: which one of Trump’s policies caused him to kill?
