  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yeah, he knew ahead of time that some nut would kill two people.
Anyone could have told him this would happen. He may as well have painted a target on this poor fellas heads.

All so he can enact emergency powers in the future.

We are seeing real consequences of very good decisions
It was a good decision that led to two deaths? THAT’S what you class as a good decision?

Crikey.

Come on, destroy America? They don't want to destroy America, they just want to reshape it to a woke gender fluid commie socialist atheist Islamic Caliphate where the wealth is distributed to those who deserve it most with abortions and gender realignment services are performed free of charge without parental consent at the government run indoctrination centers formerly known as public schools.

I'm sure it will be fabulous.
Sounds like a commie socialist utopia and a nightmare for the rest of us.

This is america. People shoot other people. But it's only when the shooters are part of an already despised minority, like transsexuals, foreigners or muslims, that the entire minority becomes suspect.

This is america. People shoot other people.
According to those on the radical right, "it's worth it, and rational".
I think it’s worth it. It’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God given rights. That’s a prudent deal. It is rational,
- Charlie Kirk -
But it's only when the shooters are part of an already despised minority, like transsexuals, foreigners or muslims, that the entire minority becomes suspect.
This is true.
Lord have mercy on the guardsmen who were shot and Lord have mercy on this gun depraved nation.

CIA connection:

The Afghan man accused of shooting two members of the National Guard in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday had worked with C.I.A.-supported military units in Afghanistan, the agency said.

The suspect worked for multiple U.S. government agencies in Afghanistan, including a C.I.A.-backed unit in the southern province of Kandahar, a stronghold of the Taliban insurgency during the two-decade war there, the C.I.A. said. Officials identified the suspect as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29.

After American forces withdrew from Afghanistan in August 2021 and gave way to Taliban rule, the suspect was brought to the United States as part of a program to evacuate Afghans who had worked with the agency, according to the C.I.A. director, John Ratcliffe.

....so, the suspect:

-supported American objectives in Afghanistan as part of an Afghan military unit working the CIA
-was granted legal entry into the US based on his prior support of American objectives in Afghanistan
-was granted in aslyum earlier this year.

What triggered him to turn to violence and intentionally target Guardsmen on duty two blocks from the White House?

Placing an American citizen on an American street should not be considered harms way, but since it is, clearly the necessity isn't as understated as people like to play it out to be.
Domestic law enforcement isn’t a proper use of our military, in case you didn’t know it’s actually illegal. That’s what makes it frivolous. They’re only there for show and it seems to be working on some of you.

If they were in no danger at all, then their occupation there would just be frivolous theater. But you're saying it's frivolous theater, and then saying that being in DC puts them in a danger zone. Which makes no sense whatsoever. It's a total contradiction.
Don’t trouble yourself too much.
When US soldiers are occupying a place where they're in danger of being shot, then their occupation there obviously isn't frivolous. But rather obviously necessary.
That’s interesting circular logic you got there. Just like I said, this administration has been looking for an excuse to justify their authoritarian takeover. At least we’re in agreement this is an occupation by our own military.

When deploying them in our own country is in harm’s way that tends to show that their deployment is necessary
Again with the specious, circular reasoning. Exactly what I’ve been saying that this administration has been wanting a reason to justify their military escalation against their own citizens. It’s honestly really sad you guys fall for this and now two people are fighting for their lives because you all want to stick to this delusion that military on our streets are needed to keep us safe.

...a court ruled last week the NG deployment in D.C. had no legal basis:

A federal judge on Thursday ordered the Trump administration to halt its National Guard deployment to Washington while a lawsuit over the matter plays out in court, siding with D.C.’s Office of the Attorney General and writing that the administration has “exceeded the bounds of [its] statutory authority.”

The order does not mean troops will leave D.C. immediately; the judge opted to pause her ruling from going into effect for 21 days to give the Trump administration time to appeal.

And posting our National Guard at fixed locations does put them at risk and an easy target for anyone want to send a message (which the suspect obviously was).

Records show Army officials also voiced concern that the deployment could be risky for troops. It “presents an opportunity for criminals, violent extremists, issue motivated groups and lone actors to advance their interests, given the prominence of locality, and expected media coverage for the mission,” according to an internal memo made public by court documents. Troops were instructed to move in buddy teams because of the “heightened threat environment,”

Amen! It blows my mind how certain people seem to have no problem with the Unuted States being flooded with ILLEGAL immigrants or with despicable, radical left policies and rhetoric that fan the flames of hatred, violence, lawlessness and treason. They only have a problem with Trump because he is standing up against the radical left's agenda to destroy America.
The National Guard on our streets aren’t doing anything about all this stuff you’ve listed. Their deployment has only put them in unnecessary danger but apparently that’s worth it for some of you to feel a little bit safer. Ben Franklin had some stuff to say about people who would trade liberty for security.

Guard Mission in D.C.:

Guard members were activated on Aug. 11, and the Trump administration temporarily took control of the police department. They have been involved in “beautification efforts,” such as removing graffiti, assisting with traffic control, supporting the police and being stationed at Metro stops, according to the D.C. National Guard. Patrolling the Farragut North and West Metro stops near the scene of the shooting was a common assignment. The Guard’s role was intended as a “crime deterrent,” and members do not conduct arrests but have the authority to detain people, Army Lt. Col. John E. Landry said at the time of the deployment.

Yeah and that’s just for their deployment. Their use as police is even further restricted by the posse comitatus act. People somehow after what happened yesterday still wish to keep up this pointless authoritarian theatre even at the expense of our soldiers’ young lives. In their minds, injured guardsmen means the plan is somehow working.

From what I’ve read it was National Guardsmen who captured the shooter

After two of them were attacked, yes. Defending themselves is obviously part of their mission.
