  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What do people make of the soul of Mr. Putin who I'd currently say is the most evil person on the planet given he is holding some many cards. Here we are on this planet & we the people as imperfect as we are can never seem to get rid of these tyrants. The ebb & flow of death in all these wars on the globe not to mention the passing away of regular human beings, just disappearing from our lives forever.

That is God's place to judge, not ours. However I would not consider himself evil, rather the powers that have been behind NATO expanding towards Russia despite their promises not to.

I don't consider him the most evil person on the planet. But like all the leaders out there making bad decisions, we are to pray for them in the hopes they turn from their ways. If they don't now, maybe they will during the trib.

You have one unlikely bedfellow (or had since he died in 2015) in the person of Malcolm Fraser, former Prime Minister of Ausralia from 1975 to 1983.

He was conservative to his bootlaces during the Cold War, but realistic in his post cold war thinking.

The following article was the result of an interview by the Emeritus Professor of Politics, Robert Manne.

Robert Michael Manne AO (born 31 October 1947) is an Emeritus Professor of Politics and Vice-Chancellor's Fellow at La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia. He is a leading Australian public intellectual.
The link regarding Malcolm Fraser's thoughts on the post cold war order follow.

Fraser tells me he was once convinced the swift and peaceable end of the Cold War would create a better world. Ruefully, he concedes he then did not believe it possible that the hope of a new world order powerfully articulated in March 1991 by George Bush snr - of international co-operation under the rule of law - would be so swiftly and comprehensively squandered.

Why did this happen? Fraser places most of the blame on the post-Cold War leadership of the sole remaining superpower, the US. Bill Clinton had no feel for foreign policy. At the end of the Cold War, having served its purpose, NATO should have been wound up.
