  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I would imagine it has something to do with perspective.

Nope. On a flat Earth, perspective would have nothing to do with.

I am at sea level. The Isle of Man is 48 metres above sea level. On a flat Earth, I should have absolutely zero problems seeing it. But I cannot, hence, the Earth is not flat.

Why don’t you explain.

I'll just copy and paste since I want to see if you understand it from that:

"The result was negative, in that Michelson and Morley found no significant difference between the speed of light in the direction of movement through the presumed aether, and the speed at right angles. This result is generally considered to be the first strong evidence against some aether theories, as well as initiating a line of research that eventually led to special relativity, which rules out motion against an aether. Of this experiment, Albert Einstein wrote, "If the Michelson–Morley experiment had not brought us into serious embarrassment, no one would have regarded the relativity theory as a (halfway) redemption.": 219 "

So what caused this serious embarrassment.

What optics are you using.

My own eyes. If the Earth was flat, I should have no need to use any optics apart from my own eyes see the Isle of Man at 70 miles away from me, since the horizon would not exist at 3 miles distant. Such a thing would not exist on a flat Earth, only a globe Earth.

What is it that the special relativity provides a (partial) remedy for in this case, do tell.

Not a clue. All I was doing was showing that you didn't know what the intent and purpose of the Michelson-Morely experiment was, despite even a cursory glance of it on the internet showed what the intent and purpose of the experiment was.

Because it’s really ODD for people to think the earth is flat in this day and age.
I understand that but don't people think odd things of every subject imaginable?

I just don't understand why this is such a hot topic?

Because it just absolutely flies in the face of what we know about the Earth, what we've studied of the Earth and also what we've known for centuries.

Because they seem to want to make this an issue of the Bible, even though it is something that really has no bearing on salvation through accepting Christ as Lord and Saviour.

Because they want to make it a hot topic.

Why would this experiment be embarrassing to anyone.

Albert Einstein was part & parcel of the establishement. Tesla was not & this is why he ended up penniless & his documents all stolen, just before he died.
Tesla knew all about how to get free energy from the Ionosphere but Governments didnt want the public to know this, nope, they wanted to put a meter on it first.

This is 15km with a 100x zoom. I doubt you can see that far with the naked eye.

Thanks.

I mean, personally, I don't care one way or the other. Someone's viewpoint has no bearing on my life, whatsoever, but I wanted to know if I was missing something about why so many people passionately engage in this specific topic.

The second point you make makes sense and, really, is such a shame. There are bigger issues in the world but I appreciate we all need distraction and entertainment.

I hope you all figure it out! I don't want to fall off the Earth on vacation because we got it wrong!

How far can the human eye see?

"The range of vision for a person is infinite. You can see for miles and miles. On a clear day, you can see for up to 3 miles before the horizon due to the curvature of the earth. Yet you can see skyscrapers in a further distance than 3 miles due to no horizon obstruction.

If you look into the sky you can see stars during the night that are millions of miles away. It is easier to see objects that are bright and big. For example, the moon, sun, stars, etc.

The furthest you can see in the ocean is about 2.9 miles cause of the horizon limit due to the earth’s curvature."

Oh, don't worry about that. The ice wall around the edge will stop anyone falling off. (I'm being sarcastic)
