  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why do people hate ICE...

The GOP's anti Blackness is what keeps Black people from voting for them. There are plenty of Black people who agree with the prolife/anti abortion stances, but won't support the GOP because of the racism. They used Black people as the boogeyman for decades to get White people to vote against their own interests, and now they are doing the same with Hispanics. At first Hispanics thought the GOP made a distinction between legal and undocumented, but now they are coming to the realization that they don't, and even if they did, they don't mind violating the civil rights of the legal immigrants and citizens to get to the undocumented who aren't really a threat. The GOP is expecting us to believe that undocumented folks are simultaneously taking all the jobs and getting all the federal benefits at the expense of average Americans. Last year they were eating dogs and cats and now not only are they sneaking across the border, they are bringing their cattle with them.

Just like with Black people in the past, they want White people to think the presence of anyone not White means less for them and that these "others" are getting things White people paid for for free. They say whatever is necessary to scare people into voting GOP. Fear works. Anyone using this tactic should be a major red flag. The bible tells us over and over again to fear not. Yet somehow Christians seem more susceptible to the message. It's just the opposite for dems. They put too much faith in norms and laws. If you say due to xyz, we believe bad thing xyz is going to happen, they call it fearmongering and refuse to act. The said this about SCOTUS, overturning Roe and several other things.
Nah, this us the garbage the Democrats have been feeding the blacks for decades. Much like the more recent claims of "the GOP is full if Nazis". Utter junk. Its a shame they've been able to bamboozle people like that.

A person brought to America at age 5 is deported 35 years later, at age 40, along with his family to a country he doesn't know, where he has no connections and barely speaks the language and expect them to survive?
How many years did that person have to become legal? He came illegally, stayed illegally. You know how many illegals come here not knowing anyone and can't speak the language?
Consider a situation where someone is forced to returned to Venezuela after 35 years or another 3rd world country along with their American citizen spouse and children; it raises questions about the fairness and humanity of such actions.
They can self deport and then they have a pathway to come back. Criminals get married and have kids all the time. Then they get caught and sent to prison.

They took a gamble. They took a risk. If the Bible teaches us anything it is there are co sequences to our actions. When we do something wrong there is a price to pay. Sometimes the price is severe. This guy had 30 years to make it right and didn't. Not only that he dragged other people into his law breaking. Thats even more unconscionable. Why would you break the law, live a life of it and then drag others into it who are innocent? Now they also have to pay a price for your crimes.
You immigrated to America,
Yes and did so legally.
As a Christian for 45 years, I find it difficult to understand how those who claim to have the Holy Spirit in them believe such treatment of others aligns with the teachings from the Sermon on the Mount.
I've been a Christian for longer than that. I find it difficult to understand those who only want to cherry pick scriptures to support their social cause instead of supporting all of it. The Bible is a complete book of that speaks if the depravity of man and the consequences of such. Believe me when I tell you I have suffered for the consequences of my sin more than once. I know my savior has saved my soul and I am forgiven for my actions because I have repented of them and am covered by his righteousness and grace. But that did not alleviate my earthly consequences. I still paid an earthly cost and the Lord did not save me from that. And others around me paid a price too.

This guy you talk about had 30 years to make it right and didn't. He didnt repent which means recognizing your failure and changing your mind and no longer live that way. He should have gone home and come legally. Instead he kept on doing wrong and pulled orhers down with him.

Jesus never once told us to set all criminals free. He told us it was good to visit them IN JAIL. Compassion does not alleviate societal consequences for one's actions. I would be compassionate by telling the guy to go home and then let them know they are welcome to apply to come back legally.

I'm aware that many Americans make exactly the same argument you mentioned here. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they don’t know the law. However, as an immigrant, you should understand very well that what you're suggesting is not accurate. As an immigrant, you should know that anyone who entered the United States unlawfully can never return to the U.S. through legal means. They can't even complete the immigration form if they previously entered the U.S. illegally.

What you're proposing isn't truly compassionate advice; it's insincere guidance that you know they won't be able to follow.

Self deporting allows you to return. The other option is to just leave. If you snuck in you can get back out. If the government does not know you and does not know if you are an illegal you can leave. Then you can apply to get in.

What you are supporting is "hey, if they get in and get away with it, then they can stay." Its encouraging the attempt. Which is what rhe Democrats always have done. Which Biden allowed and encouraged. Even Reagan who supported giving illegals a pathway did not do so just because. He did it based upon promises by the Democrats which never were followed through on.

So yes they can leave on their own by a couple of means and still return. Legally. Right now we have exactly what you support. If you sneak in illegally and get away with it, you can stay. You might as well not have a border or immigration law with that kind of thinking.

So, your compassionate Christian advise to undocumented immigrant ; self-deport, go back to your native land ( make sure US government doesn't know) , apply for immigration, lie on the immigration forum, and come back. Did I get that correctly?

I hate ICE because it dilutes my rum.
But that is a benefit if you start with cask proof rum! (Though it seems cask strength is hard to find in everything except Scotch).

Why would you have to lie? If you self deport you are allowed to apply to come back and are eligible to do so.

Nearly all immigration and tourist visa forms ask if you've ever visited the US; if so, you must provide your arrival and departure dates. Documentation proving arrival and departure dates must be provided for embassy verification.

If you immigrated to the US in the past 50 years, you should know these basic questions.

So you are going to dismiss what I'm telling you about my own community? Democrats don't have to tell Black people anything. We have eyes and ears.

If the sole circumstance that changed is that it is now you instead of me, or vice versus, then the problem is hypocrisy.
Circumstances are changing constantly.

Yes, that lie that it was about 'removing criminals' and the 'worst of the worst' is a large part of what's motivating the anger.
Nobody said only criminals.

Staying illegally for as long as he has only makes his offense more egregious.

You frame it as though "they have to lie". Wouldn't honesty be the Christian approach here, even if it means being denied entry into the US? Or are immigrants are not bound by Christian moral standards?

Yes. As I've shared before, I wouldn't be here if it weren't for the ACA.

The American Immigration Lawyers Association warned that the administration's suggestion that people could more easily apply to reenter the country if they leave on their own is "deceptive." There is no legal process or category under U.S. law that covers those who "self-deport," the group noted.

The message "gives people the impression there are no consequences, such as being barred from returning in the future," the legal group said in a statement. "No one should accept this without first obtaining good legal advice from an immigration attorney or other qualified representative

."
