  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump's history of acts of kindness and generosity

A simple Grok search reveals:

  • Paying off a widow's mortgage: In 2016, Trump reportedly paid off the $77,000 mortgage for Annabel Hill, a Georgia woman whose husband had committed suicide, saving her family farm from foreclosure. He personally burned the debt papers in a gesture of finality.
  • Loaning his jet for a sick child: In the early 1990s, Trump provided his private plane to fly 3-year-old Andrew Tenenbaum, a boy with a rare heart condition, and his family from Los Angeles to New York for life-saving surgery. The family described him as a "miracle."
  • Donating presidential salary to charities: During his presidency, Trump donated his entire $400,000 annual salary to various government agencies and causes, including the National Park Service, Department of Education, and opioid addiction programs—totaling over $1.4 million across four years.
  • Supporting a suicidal woman on a bridge: Trump reportedly gave $10,000 to a New York City bus driver who talked a woman out of jumping off the George Washington Bridge in 1989, recognizing his heroism.
  • Sheltering Jennifer Hudson after tragedy: Following the 2008 murder of three of her family members, Trump provided Jennifer Hudson and her family free accommodations at the Trump International Hotel in Chicago for several weeks.
  • Helping a distressed woman in New York: In the 1990s, Trump encountered a woman in tears near the Brooklyn Bridge who was contemplating suicide after her parents' deaths. He spent time talking her down, prayed with her, and slipped a $100 bill into her hand, which she later framed as a symbol of his compassion.
  • Assisting a Marine detained abroad: Trump donated $25,000 to help a U.S. Marine sergeant arrested and detained in Mexico in 2016, aiding his legal and travel expenses.
  • Funding education for a classmate's family: After a high school classmate's father passed away, Trump's father (Fred Trump) funded the college education for the three children. Trump has been noted for upholding and expanding such family traditions of quiet support.
  • Providing office space to civil rights groups: In the 1980s, Trump donated prime office space in Trump Tower to Jesse Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH Coalition when the group was struggling to find affordable headquarters.
  • Supporting Black entrepreneurs: Trump provided loans and financial backing to Black-owned businesses in New York that banks had rejected, helping them launch ventures in the 1970s and 1980s.
  • Challenging discrimination at Mar-a-Lago: When purchasing the Mar-a-Lago estate in the 1980s, Trump ended its longstanding discriminatory policies against Black and Jewish members, sending community leaders films like Guess Who's Coming to Dinner to highlight the issue.
  • Aid to 9/11 rescue efforts: In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, attacks, Trump personally funded and organized rescue teams, donated supplies, and visited Ground Zero to assist in recovery operations.
My hopes is that this thread shows the 'other side' of the man.

  • Employee at his Mar-a-Lago Resort Experienced a Family Tragedy
    • Trump stepped in to help, covering medical bills and providing housing assistance for the family. Stories like this highlight his willingness to lend a helping hand in more personal and private ways, away from the spotlight.
  • Helping a Bus Driver Pay for Medical Expenses
    • In 1986, a New York City bus driver, **Eugene Callender**, witnessed a violent incident where a young boy was being attacked by three men. Callender intervened, saved the boy, but was left with injuries and large medical bills. Trump heard about the bus driver's heroic actions and, recognizing the courage and kindness shown, stepped in to cover his medical expenses, easing the financial burden for Callender.
  • Donation to a Girl Fighting Cancer
    • In 2014, Trump gave $25,000 to a little girl named **Bailey Lynn Reutzel**, who was fighting a rare brain disease. The donation went toward covering her medical expenses, allowing the family to focus on Bailey’s recovery rather than being overwhelmed by medical bills.
  • Helping a Woman in Need of Treatment
    • Trump once received a letter from a woman named **Joan Brennan**, who was seeking financial help for her daughter’s multiple sclerosis treatment. Upon hearing her story, Trump responded by donating $10,000 to cover the cost of treatment. His willingness to step in and offer financial support during difficult times exemplifies his desire to help others on a personal level.
  • Assisting a Desperate Good Samaritan
    • In 1991, **Andrew Stein**, a man from Buffalo, New York, gained national attention when he ran into a burning car to save a driver who was trapped inside. Stein was left with significant injuries and financial hardship after the incident. When Trump heard of his heroism, he sent Stein $10,000 to help cover his medical bills and show his appreciation for the man’s bravery.
  • Hosting a Wedding for a U.S. Marine and His Fiancée
    • In 2017, U.S. Marine **John Arroyo** and his fiancée reached out to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate for assistance in planning their wedding. Arroyo, a survivor of the 2014 Fort Hood shooting, had gone through a long recovery process. When Trump learned about Arroyo’s situation, he generously offered to host the couple's wedding at Mar-a-Lago, providing them with the venue and a dream wedding free of charge.

Obviously, I need Grok to cite its sources. But assuming that the list is correct, or at least partly correct, I'm glad he has done some kind things for people along the way. It's a side of his personality that he keeps pretty well hidden these days, but it's encouraging to think that there have been some generous actions in his life.

He also, assisted by son Eric, held a number of NY fundraisers where they grabbed almost all the proceeds in costs.
I think it's one of the numerous acts of fraud AG James has identified.
And let's face it, donating his salary doesn't even make a dent on security costs that are bankrupting the Secret Service.
I commend the researcher who found a few praiseworthy acts among the mountains of greed.

If he donated his kidney to a homeless stranger it wouldn't matter. The hate and loathing is too deeply ingrained.
Given Donald Trump's large history of fraud, proven in court on multiple occasions, how could anyone trust him if he did claim to do something as highly unlikely as that, or as equally unlikely as him singlehandedly curing cancer, another ridiculous scenario others have suggested?

Given his fraud history, and the fact that he lies constantly (according to Politifact, 219 "pants on fire" lies have been cited, as well as 442 "false" statements, and 216 "mostly false"), why would anyone believe anything he says?

To say nothing of the other criminal activity he's been proven guilty of, including 34 felonies.

Those of us who oppose or object to Trump do not feel that way based on nothing but irrational "hate and loathing," but because of the facts.

I'd like at least some independent verification before I believe the stories in the OP and following post actually happened. So far I've only found a woman claiming this happened to her:

The idea that Donald "I have nothing to repent" Trump prayed with a random suicidal woman in distress while prowling the streets near brooklyn bridge is almost as funny as the idea of Trump "slipping her" a benjamin and her framing it like Scrooge McDuck.

I’ve no doubt that all these so called acts of kindness are to cover up for some malfeasance.

He gave a porn star a bunch of money. Was he just being kind?

Let's verify that they actually happened before we debate how kind these acts really were.

I don't think that Trump is completely unable to perform acts of kindness. But I do believe that he is not the type to do so quietly or secretly without anyone knowing about them.
