  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Worst Possible Uses for AI imaginable

As I see it there's nothing wrong with workplace surveillance. From my experience there are a lot of people who could use being surveilled. It's like having surveillance cameras in stores watching for looters. Why should I care? Seems like a pretty good idea to me. Now if you want to watch me in my home then that's a different story. But in the public domain I say 'Why should I care?'
What about AI that observes whether you yawn too much at work, or if your eyes appear tired too often? Would you be okay with that? Because that tech already exists, and is in use.

Though I have never heard of that tech. It seems like solid evidence, plus there is no down side. If it was an innocent I doubt you would make a mistake. Ai could detect pre-crime based on probabilities but the accuracy would not be 100%. Some might find that acceptable. I suppose it might be if one just had to see a counselor, but if they were requiring onerous maeasures just because you showed up on AI's radar, then that would not be a society I would want to live in.
I like the cameras they work great. I have a 70” tv in my living room and above that I have a 42” mounted to the wall that we use to show family photos slideshow on. I installed an Amazon Fire Stick on the 42” tv and it comes with a photos app that you can upload unlimited photos on it and have it play a slideshow 24/7. Then I connected my Eufy door lock to the Alexa app which allows me to have the camera interrupt the photo slide show when someone comes to the door so I can see who’s at the door. I have a 32” fire tv upstairs in my bedroom that does the same and at night when I activate night mode when we go to sleep if it detects a person it turns on the tv in my bedroom and shows the camera that detected the person. It’s pretty nice to be woken up by the alarm and not have to fumble around with my phone trying to see that tiny screen waking up from a dead sleep when your eyes aren’t quite working yet. It gives me time to get to the gun safe if I need to.

AI absolutely sucks at reading history.

There's nothing wrong with that. Or with cameras in general, or with protecting your home... In this thread, I'm referring to the use of AI, and where we do, or don't want it to go in the future, as far as 'being controlled'.

Liberty is the state of being free from oppressive restrictions and having the ability to act and speak freely. It means having the freedom to make personal choices about one's life, behavior, and beliefs, as long as they are lawful and not harmful to others.

Because one thing leads to another, and if you don't care now, then whe will you care?

Obviously one thing leads to another, but that still doesn't answer my question... why should I care?
