  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

WHERE TO POST A QUESTION ABOUT CHRISTMAS CARDS?

Do people still send Christmas cards? Some years I sent 70. At any rate I always sent several cards. Now I'm blessed if I receive two. Are cards a thing of the past? I have some boxes of beautiful cards and i hate to throw them away. I also miss receiving them. Can someone enlighten me about this custom?

It is like this - The Global Trend of Sending e-Greeting Cards and Messages - Root-Nation.com - people do not see the problem with these things changing.

However, you could just send the ones you have to people. Personally I do not think that just pressing a button on a mobile phone, or telling all facebook friends in one go is the same. The combination of trends does not make much sense to me, beauty product advent calenders are doing roaring business, but people do not want to do Christmas Cards because of the environment...I wonder what the carbon footprint difference is between a few easily recycled paper cards and a mountain of unnecessary card, plastic, and mini-beauty treats?

I reckon that they have deliberately raised the cost of postage so that we go too emailing instead, but I refuse too be beaten.
And another thing, who's finding it harder & harder to purchase Christmas cards with Biblical images ?

The people who used to send me cards weren't in dire poverty. Most of the boxes of cards I have are biblical. Oh, well.

I think people have lost interest.

For years, I have bought my Christmas cards from Conception Abbey: Christmas Cards . (They used to call their shop "Printery House"; now it's called "Altar + Home".) They also sell cards for Easter and other holidays, along with cards for occasions like baptism and confirmation.

As to the OP: A few of my friends still send cards, but it doesn't seem to be as common a practice as it used to be. Too bad -- it's a nice custom.
