  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So the Mercator's map were just made up ?

AI
The Mercator map was used as the standard for nautical navigation for centuries, from its creation in 1569 until the 1940s when atlases began to stop using it for world maps. It remains in use today for specific purposes, such as for areas near the equator or for digital maps, because its specific properties are still useful for navigation.
When we were discussing Mercator some months ago, I remember pointing out that Mercator himself had never even been to the Arctic, so how could he have known about what was in the centre? All you could do in reply was point to a letter he wrote, but you were not able to provide a quote from the letter that stated he had actually visited Antarctica, or been to its centre.

Exactly - Compasses don't work when it nears the magnet black rock which is under, so the compasses wants to point down but can't so it stops working.
But according to your sources, the "black rock" is huge and reaches beyond the clouds. This is the trouble with made up stuff. You can never keep the story straight and often contradict yourself.

John Dee's letter;

His letter even resides at the British Museum.

Two pages with fire damage of Mercator's 1577 letter to John Dee. Whole letter at British Museum, Cotton MS Vitellius C. VII, fols. 264-269

I don't dispute that he wrote the letter, or that it is now in the British Museum. What I was asking you was whether in the letter, Mercator actually claims to have visited the North Pole, or even the Arctic.

And it does, it is the base which goes under & at the bases there is giant whirlpool where ships dare to venture.

Well if he didn't how would Mercator have of known what to write.

Interesting - The first three letters of Mercator = Mer which means sea.

No, what is this ? It is a crashed satellite with the Balloon still attached to it.

The statement was that satellites don't look like balloons.
In response, you posted a picture which you said is of a satellite that is attached to a balloon.

All you have done is to prove the statement that satellites don't look like balloons. We can all see, from your picture, that the two things don't look at all like each other.

Probably like all early map-makers, he made an intelligent guess. If he had actually been there, hundreds of years before the first recorded polar expedition, he would surely have said that he had actually seen the things that he records on his map.

The fact that the first three letters of his name mean "sea" in French adds nothing to the discussion. We could say that the first four letters of Beethoven's name mean a root vegetable, but so do the first four letters of the name of an insect, beetle.

That turned out to be a not so intelligent guess, making it at best, just a guess….or pure invention by imagination, a shot in the dark. And that’s at best.

^_^ I just thought it was interesting ............

And anyway I was talking about the first three letters so Beethoven would be Bee as would beetle = Bee, God's favorite letter as quoted in the book 'Legend of the Jews'.

I remember we were through this before. I have satellite tv in my house. The dish that receives the signal is fixed in one position. If a satellite was attached to a balloon, there’s no way that the signal could be received. The balloon would float away from where the dish is pointing.

There is also no terrestrial antenna which could be broadcasting a signal from that direction at that height.

There is also no cable attached to my satellite box that could be giving me the signal except from the dish.

None of your “explanations” has ever rationally explained how I receive signals for my satellite tv. Every satellite tv installer knows full well the signals come from a satellite, because they have to align the dish to the area in the sky where the satellite holds in geostationary orbit.

How do you know if God has a favourite letter, or what it is?

Since you have so much faith in Mercator, here is one of his maps.

Actually a project Loon balloon

Loon was a radical approach to bringing internet access to rural, remote, and underserved areas using a system of balloons, carried by winds in the stratosphere. After nine years of groundbreaking technical achievements, Loon wound down, but its technological legacy lives on. The team shared its learnings in The Loon Collection — a shared archive of insights for future stratospheric explorers — and some of its technology can be found in Taara, which uses light beams to deliver abundant, affordable connectivity.

Ever heard of underground cables or some of these, what ever you call them ?

Yes.
Which proves that satellites do not look like balloons - which is what @David Lamb said.
You've proved his point.
