  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

But do we see that from Trump supporters in this forum?
I think that because this is generally an American forum the level of acceptance for authoritarianism is a lot higher than most western democracies.

I sometimes wonder if the Libertarian folks in the US are a response to this. I don’t see many libertarians in the UK and I posit that’s because our tolerance for authoritarianism is much lower.

You only have to look at how landslide victor Sir Kier Starmer is now regarded.

It's quite genius, actually. There is no infighting. All force is directed towards the opposition. Modern conservatives are willing to accept the good with the bad, while the left is routinely tearing itself apart because of minor disagreements and can't find it's direction because it believes that the direction actually matters.
I'd be more inclined to think "accept the bad with the even worse"

It will be interesting to see how things are going in NYC a year from now. Hopefully it won't end up being a hard lesson for NY citizens.
Mandami cannot fulfil half of his campaign promises since a city mayor lacks the authority for those changes. The rest may be possible, but would require two or three years, so significant change in NYC seems unlikely.

So it might get worse before it gets better?

Could you please explain which of his policies you believe may have adverse effects?
The one where everyone has to get inoculated with the Marxo-Islamic 5G inert viral strains.

I believe it called ‘Wildfire’.

You have no policy to reference and are only assuming things could get worse—Got it!
My comment was based on you saying "The rest may be possible, but would require two or three years, so significant change in NYC seems unlikely", and nothing more. Why is someone living in Wisconsin so uptight over what someone else might think about the mayor of NYC? And why would someone living in Seattle be up to speed on the polices of the mayor of NYC?

A thread to discuss all the effects of the new Mayor

Parents began planning to take their kids out of NYC schools minutes after Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral win

Since the results of Tuesday’s election came in, school placement consultant Christopher Rim told The Post he’s had no less than 23 clients reach out to him. They’re looking to relocate — and they want his help getting their kids into elite private high schools and middle schools in other states.

“Within the first 30 minutes of AP announcing Mamdani’s victory, I got three messages from families looking to move,” said Rim, founder and CEO of Command Education.
Rim loves it. He's making millions off of rich kids parents.

There’s just that many people who want to live there and can afford to.
If I understand correctly Mamdani want to freeze rent on the current rent restricted housing. Which only affects those already living there. The rest of Neq Yorkers will still struggle including all those voters who don't live in those apartments. In fact they will probably see their rents go up to make up the difference.

I'm sure Sharia law will mentioned soon. It was constantly used against Sadiq Khan when he became mayor of London. Those two guys should get together for a beer* and exchange notes.

* zero alcohol, of course.
Yes and Londons a mess right now.

American people from important issues by focusing on Mandami the socialist, they may find themselves surprised after the November elections. next year
I agree. If Congress doesn't get back to work and start focusing on bringing costs down they will lose out. Its typical though for the party in power to lose the mid terms. So even if they do lose the house it honestly should be expected.

But they need to show some progress if they want to at least minimize the losses. The media and democrats are going to hammer on tge fact that there is inflation even thougj its better than the Biden years. T h e Republicans have been able to do anything to bring costs down except for gas prices.
