Do the Ten Commandments still apply under the new covenant today?

Hi everyone, with some of your expertise here, I was wondering your thoughts on this Acts 15.
Everything was done with the Gospels when the Lord was active in ministry. Revealtions is a vision of the Lord also.

Somebody wrote this to me. I looked at Acts 15 and it was about not eating foods to idols etc.....then it mentioned about circumsion. No mention of the word the Sabbath was used. I know under Mosaic law they used to do the Sabbath on Saturday and most Christians moved this to Sunday.

Lets look at what they said-
Acts 15 sets out the requirements placed by the Council of Jerusalem on Gentile believers.
Sabbath observance was not required.

It is clear to me there is no mention about loving God in this that we need this as Christians. Some say online that this is for new believers some describe them as Gentile Christians. I think this important as well as some people clearly use this to say Sabbath keeping is not required. It some ways it remind me of all things are permissable but clearer the idols fornication etc is not but it hints there by not mentioning that the rest is permissable but not expident to be like this for spiritual development it seems base line.

Why is there is no mention of love of God in this or respect for others Jesus 2nd greatest Commandment and the Sabbath. I know it is promoted but this is this about to you? Lets resolve it.

For Christians the message of Acts 15 becomes clear about effectively our bottom line as Christians through the works of Christ alone, what Act 15 points out is that salvation is by faith through grace alone are the most important things we should rest on as Christians-but the church remains promoted and spiritually enriching but if you are not able to attend it does not rest on your salavation. which rests on Christ alone. Acts 15 is stopping people falling into legalism and trying to bring in other rules, plus stopping dissension amongst different believers.

I found these as well.

There is a physical church, whether it is online in a house church or in person in a building and there is a community of believers who are actually members of the church and members of the Body of Christ and both of these are important.

Some people to misunderstand this scripture (Matthew 18:20)-" Where two of us are gathered together...I will be in the midst of them."This scripture is about reconcilation within church members.

I read this to and tentative on it as I think some people may start looking to see if all church's have candles or not and be asking and worrying. Some countries lesser developed may struggle to find candles and import and struggle with the costs...they said this-

In Revelation 1:20 says ``The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in my right hand, and the golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the seven churches, and the seven candlesticks which you saw are the seven churches ``............ See do your church have a candlestick of the Lord and is it one of God churches? If it does, you need to go and be counted as one for the glory of God to worship the Lord, so you cannot miss going as God Multitude of Heavenly Host of God will be there helping God's Spirit ........ If your church does not have a candlestick and God's Heavenly Host, then you need to invite God and His Spirit in to your Church for Jesus and pray for people blocking God to have a Heavenly Host helping them.

I reduced this to this-

Revelations (1:20) speaks about the candlesticks of the church's-in relation to this post, this means most simply that church's have a divine calling and value to Christ today to bring light to the world.

I take hope in the fact that we seem to be putting less stock in famous Christians, and refocusing on Christ himself (who, might I add, remains scandal-free).

All have to be scandal free, the apostles of the Lord are examples of the faith.

How many false pastors do you think there may be when there are many antichrists, many false prophets for this end time, let me have a guess and say it is entirety every single one. ( you did ask for expertise, that is mine)

But Acts 15 does make something clear in your questioning, GOD BEARS WITNESS, not those pastors, not men, and when God gives the Holy Ghost, ( WHICH PASTPERS CANNOT GIVE, NOR FAITH.) then that is God PURIFYING THE HEARTSD BY FAITH. ( all whoever they are sabbath keeping or not, it is THEIR FAITH.)



Acts 15:8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;
9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

The main concept of Acts 15 is revealed in the first verse

Acts 15:1 And certain men came down from Judea and taught the brethren, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved

Circumcision was never a means of salvation, it was a sign in the OT that showed you were part of God's people. So in order to receive the cure for sin in the OT, one needed to be circumcised to get access to the earthy temple and animal sacrifices for sin.

In the New Covenant- Jesus took away that wall of separation you can read in Eph3 and Col 2 but I can give you specific verses if you would like. Jesus became our Sacrificial Lamb so instead of an animal sacrifice for sins, we can pray for repentance directly to Him. 1John1:9

The Jews were making Gentiles get circumcised in order to hear the gospel Gal2:3 and be saved Acts 15:1 this was never the purpose of circumcision and the Jews were basically teaching they can save themselves apart from Christ which Paul had to correct and we see it in a lot of his writings.

This council came up with 4 basic things to start with so new Christian converts would not be overwhelmed.

Its not the only things that are required for Gentiles but basically started with health laws on the commandments of God. In Scripture when they list one of the Ten Commandments, it means them all James2:11

everything else they were learning every Sabbath
Acts 15: 21 For Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath.”

as the Gentiles were already keeping as we see earlier


Acts 13:42 So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath. persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
44 On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God.

It is good to be scandal free. Sometimes it is not them that brings it to them-someone else can do it and hits them as well. They though may deal with it as best as they can. Justin Webly appeared scandal free, but his co-workers was not so it was reported. They said he didn't do enough to clear it up. He should have done so if he didn't. I am not one to judge that, but he stepped down. Moses asked for his name to removed from the Book of life, it was not his fault. He had no wrong doing. People didn't listen to him and questioned God a bit too much. God dislikes tailbearers, those who idol gossip. Nobody is perfect and Christ is alone. The point is, if the minister collapses Christ doesn't and remain focused on him and consider again if you want to anybody if going to a church if a scandal or poor behaviour has stopped someone from going as it is Christ who truly carries the Church which he is the head of and the Holy Spirit carries it as well who we should be focused on.

Very brutal those in the law, not just then at the time of Moses, but seen now by the world, gr\t at killing, not so great at kindness.

So Moses said to blot him out of the Lords book, the Lord tells Moses whosoever sins against Him, will be blotted out of HIs book.

About three thousand fell that day for the golden calf they had made.

Amos speaks of the men of Israel desiring the day of the Lord, that it is not for them, a day of darkness and not light, Israel while God sent HIs Son to atone for the worlds sins, continued to make sacrifices, which God did not require of them and still does not, instead they respond by murder, even until now, so much for law and commandments, it is evil people following brutality.

The answer of God is captivity for them.



Amos 5:18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the Lord! to what end is it for you? the day of the Lord is darkness, and not light.

Jesus told the people of Israel to search the scriptures, as they testify of Him, but they would not come to Him to have life, and how these who receive any person they promote, any so called teacher of God, means they do not have the love of God I them, as they came in their own name and one we know did not come in HIs own name, was was sent , but Moses accuses all of these in the law, as Moses wrote of Christ, but they dont believe Moses so didnt believe in Christ.

Moses had told the people of Israel to hear the one like unto him, but they did not hear, the fathers of those men of Israel would not obey Moses, and thrust him from themselves, and wanted a calf of gold, then they were exiled beyond Babylon for it.




John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
41 I receive not honour from men.
42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?
45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.
46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me.
47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?


Acts 7:37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.

All things condemned us with the ten commandments, dont think you will promote it here, you will be seen to speak of condemnation, no matter how sneakily any teacher of the law tries to hide, ALL THAT BELIEVE ARE JUSTIFIED, which we CULD NOT AND WILL NEVER RECEIVE JUSTIFICATION FROM ANY PART OF THE DECLAYED TEN COMMANDMENTS.

Now the example is to not do at all as the men of Israel/those kin the law/those who promote the law di, but to take heed ( in faith) so you dont fall.




Acts 13:39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Acts 15 didn't mention the love of God either which Jesus said is the 1st Commandment for all Christians and is the most important requirement for Christians today (Matthew 22:38) and in the Old Testatment as well. Acts 15 falls short of the full scope of the spiritual guidance for Christians today.

Btw, Colossions 2:16 is about not being judged for partaking in the Sabbath and other activities and my church minister told me and not that setting aside one day of rest has been terminated under Jesus spiritual law which he came to fulfil.

It is mentioned several times that the commandments are God's forever at the end of the Bible as well in Psalm 111 and Revelations 14:12. Jesus didn't come to break the law but to fulfil it.

Jesus came to fulfil the law and you can worship in a church on any of the day of the week it is open too, and you set that as your holy day if you choose to if it burdens you less. Jesus came to bring the law to its logical conclusion and not break the law and he fulfilled the law. In terms of this-if you are burdened by Sabbath or any other day as a holy day think about if you want to keep it as you should do it freely and form your own conclusions (Romans 14:5-6). In (Acts 20:7) they also continued to worship on the Sabbath. Good news, it that does not mention that women should not be involved in ministry.

Its important to study our Bible for ourselves, like I said I am not a fan of Got Questions for this reason Isa8:20

I know Col2:16 is the "go to" verse everyone uses to get rid of the Sabbath commandment. But sadly many never look at the context which started at least in v14 and the fact the Paul came along after Jesus ratified His covenant at the Cross- It Is Finished, nothing can be added or changed to God's covenant without another blood sacrifice, but Jesus sacrifice was once and for all Heb10:10

Plus we have a salvation warning about misunderstanding Paul's writings 2Peter 3:16 and lastly but more importantly this teaching contradicts the teaching of Jesus Christ Psa89:34 Mat5:17-30 Mat24:20 Isa66:23 and even the actions of the apostles who kept faithfully every Sabbath decades after the Cross Acts 15:21 Acts 13:42 Acts 13:44 Acts 18:4

There is more than one sabbath in the Bible. The sabbath(s) Paul is referring to are the annaul ceremonial feast day sabbath(s) that have to do with food and drink offerings that came after the fall, the context what was handwritten (God wrote with His finger) that is contrary and against, the Sabbath is the holy day of the Lord thy God and the sign of His sanctification, that is not contrary or against- but what Moses handwrote in a book that was placed outside the ark as a witness against which held all the annual ceremonial feast days and annual sabbaths along with the animal sacrifices etc Deut 31:24-26 the context that no one ever quotes Col2:14KJV. The Sabbath commandment is on a whole other foundation, it came before sin Exo20:11 and its part of the Ten Commandments, the Testimony of God that no man can alter. The weekly Sabbath points to our Creator and can never be a shadow of anything and this is what Paul was quoting in Col2:17 Heb10:1-10 Heb 9:10-15

To top it off, some sabbath keepers believe that the 4th commandment is a moral commandment so all professed Christians that worship on Sunday are living a life of sin and need to repent in order to attain salvation. Talk about trying to put the monkey of the law back on the Christian’s back. Ain’t that a kicker.

The 4th commandment didn't get spiralized away, just like the other 9 commandments didn't.

The rest we receive in Christ is from sin Psa 38:3 Mat 11:28. In Christ rest no one is sinning 1John3:4 or breaking any of His commandments James2:11 , including the 4th commandment Mat12:12 Mat5:19 , this is called unrest, Christ said He would give rest for those who come to Him AND He kept the seventh day Sabbath Luke4:16 Heb4:10, Heb4:4 Exo20:8-11 Lev23:3 as our example 1John2:6 1 Peter 2:21-22. The rest Christ gives does not delete our moral obligation to keep His commandments.
