  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That's where a scotus ruling may come into play I suppose if he were to try that trick.

It's never been tested in court, and it would depend on if (and how many justices) leaned towards the side of originalism vs. other interpretation styles.

An originalist may say, when the 12th amendment was crafted, the people who crafted it had no intent of stopping a person from being president for more than two terms. So I think someone like a Clearance Thomas would rule in his favor on that, but not sure about the others.

And then there's also the Speaker of the House in the succession plan, are there any limits on a former president ever running to be a House Rep?

Personally, I'd be more concerned about a Taft-like situation.

(where he became the chief justice of the US after being president)
The Chief Justice isn't even in the "line of succession". Trump can't even spell "law".

Trump may be trolling gullible liberals but he most definitely is not testing the waters.
Trump: '“I would love to do it: I have my best numbers ever,”

Bannon: '“Trump is going to be president in ’28, and people ought to just get accommodated with that,”

Not entirely false. Trump will be President for most of January 2028.

I'm positive Vance is running in 2028, and we will be having an election like every other. As Vice I'm sure he'll be the favored Republican candidate.

Trump trolls the media is all. I don't listen to the noise, he pokes and prods.
I actually love this. Trump LOVES to troll the media and the rest of the left. This thread is a great example. Its quite hilarious.

Yeah and can you even imagine Trump being second in command to anyone? He wouldn’t allow it for one second.
He might agree with it if he can recreate the montreal screwjob or the fingerpoke of doom live on stage during the swearing in ceremony. Remember, he's a huge fan of pro wrestling.

Like I said trolling gullible liberals. Get back with me on that in 28. Trump is not going to do a third term. Do you remember Obama’s comments on a third term?
Maybe Obama got his third term.

For the chief justice part, I wasn't referring to the pathway to president, I was saying that if there was a politician I was particularly fearful of, I'd be more concerned about them being on the supreme court (while still having a cult following)

Nope. Only those eligible to be President or VP can serve as Acting President or ascend to President

(e) Subsections (a), (b), and (d) shall apply only to such officers as are eligible to the office of President under the Constitution.
(a) is the Speaker becoming (Acting) President, (b) is the President Pro Tempore of the Senate becoming (Acting) President, (d) is when a member of the Cabinet becomes (Acting) President. Cabinet members must also be confirmed by the Senate to be eligible (no "acting Secretaries").

As noted, since it hasn't been tested in the courts, it's still something of a debated topic among the Poli-Sci academic types.

If this is truly why you elected him -- to be an entertainer, a comedian who plays satisfying practical jokes on the Left -- then that would explain much.

I would rather he do it from an HBO comedy show than from the White House, but I suppose the White House draws a larger audience.

Pointy-headed academics and a link to a file posted on some random UKian website? Pass.

They host it on their repo for that UK website, but it's from the University of Minnesota Law School circa 1999.

This is the president of the USA engaging in disingenuous games and lying. I do understand tho that it makes good entertainment, which is what people value these days.

This president engages in the trolling of liberals because they give him so much material to work with. Calling him a king and a nazi only allows him to combat foolishness with foolishness. The absolute UNNATURAL hatred for Trump by MANY ( not all) liberals just shows a shallowness of true facts and understanding of what Trumps real goals are. Current Democrat leadership is self destructing and only a precious few in the party are realizing that fact.

"The libs" may or may not be doing whatever.

I'm talking about what this low character president is up to. "Trolling" etc should be beneath the office. Hopefully we'll get an adult in there sooner or later. But I'm not sure people want that.

As I keep asking, what other constitutional limits are funny to joke about ignoring?
