  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Even if (more likely "when") Momdani becomes NYC Mayor studies show the richest New Yorkers will stay

I think oh no Mr. Bill is a reference to a few 50 year old Saturday Night Live skits.

In 2025, the federal income tax brackets will be as follows: for single filers, the rates are 10% on income up to $11,925, 12% on income from $11,926 to $48,475, and so on, with the highest rate of 37% applying to income over $626,350. For married couples filing jointly, the rates start at 10% on income up to $23,850 and reach 37% for income over $751,600.

Imagine - $53.00 of every $100.00 going to the government.
Nobody's paying 53% in taxes, even when you add up every tax dollar. Do you understand how progressive brackets work?

Why on earth would I want to live in a city where the cost of living and doing business is among the highest in the nation, when I can move to another place and just take my jet in when I feel like it?
Have you seen the cost of private jet parking lately?!?

Oh come on now. You really expect me to believe you feel bad for the poor disadvantaged multi millionaires and billionaires in NYC? How about for the middle class that can barely get by?
I don't care what you choose to believe - you asked a question; I gave on honest answer. If your POV is so narrow, you cannot envision someone thinking differently - that also is not my problem.

Empathy is not feeling bad for someone - check out a dictionary: : the action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experience of another

BTW - I am in the Middle class - in fact in the lower half of the middle class.

Do you think rich NYC millionaires spend much time thinking about you and how you’ll get by?
Not a clue - what difference does it make -

No, I worry about myself and my own.
That is quite evident in your words.

Tell me again why you want to live in NY?
Because there's a heck of a lot more to do in NYC. More job opportunities, more amenities, more variety of just about everything. Not only do the same jobs typically pay more, but high-paying jobs, are easier to come by. Those jobs, especially in certain sectors, are scarce if not completely absent outside of certain high-COL areas like NYC.

It's not for everybody, but to act as if there isn't a segment of the population for whom it has a lot of desirable qualities, is delusional.

10 years ago perhaps, but not these days -

The left always brings up amenities - what are you referring to?

What amenities does NY have that Dallas does not?

It’s true that the wealthy can live pretty much wherever they want. It just so happens most of them want to live in some of the most expensive cities in the world. Almost like these things are intrinsically tied to each other.

I hope Momdani becomes the mayor of NYC and goes full throttle. The downfall of NYC be a good lesson for the rest of the country.
Cheering and hoping for the downfall of an American city.

These are apparently the “love America” people.

Yeah? Just going by the jobs in my extended family: how many jobs are there in Tulsa for investment bankers? For jewelry designers? For media professionals?

The left always brings up amenities - what are you referring to?

I thought we were talking about Tulsa.

The quantity of top-flight restaurants, museums, and artistic companies in NYC is unrivaled outside of a handful of the largest cities in the world. Dallas may have some great stuff (I've never been, but I assume this is true), but NYC has more of it.

I hope Momdani becomes the mayor of NYC and goes full throttle. The downfall of NYC be a good lesson for the rest of the country.
Yeah, imagine if they wind up like Mississippi.

Cheering and hoping for the downfall of an American city.

These are apparently the “love America” people.
Silly goose. Cities aren't "real America."

Yeah, how dare they try to keep the money they earn. They have a lot of nerve.

One of the happiest experiences I have had is when I moved from NY to OK.

While it was a lateral move, my take home pay went up 14%. My property taxes went down almost 3,000 a year for a home twice the size
I lived in metro NY for 40 years and lived in 3 other states due to my husband's career. My favorite home was west St. Louis County. Big city culture, sports and amenities at a much lower cost of living.
Not planning on moving because a slower pace is better for retirees. I am involved and active but things like curbside pickup at stores, attached garages, less crowded doctors' offices etc. make life easier.
Without community involvement I'd wither. The politics are appalling but i can be, like Ghandi, a catalyst for the change i want to see in the world. People are generous because government is so mean.
Our friends and cousins in NY are doing fine. Their homes were paid off 20 years ago so life us affordable but I don't know how their kids and grandkids will do. One million doesn't buy much house.

And that makes sense. When you can afford to live anywhere, cities offer the wealthy a great quality of life--a quality of life that will only improve when Momdani's changes improve the quality of life for everyone else.

Momdani, Bernie, and AOC held a huge rally last night. If only Momdani had been born in the US instead of Nigeria, he would be just about perfect.
Legalized prostitution, defund the police, shut down prisons, raise taxes by nine billion dollars, freeze the rent, free busing, government run grocery stores. Caught lying about his aunt being afraid to ride the subway, raising money for pro Hamas organization, threatened to arrest leader of Israel. How is this communist con man good for NY?

Right. Except for the uber wealthy who are real America and deserve our empathy even though they apparently have no loyalty to the society around them and will just pack up and leave when their expensive big city becomes 2% more expensive to live in.

Tulsa? Oklahoma? Why would anyone move to that liberal income and sales taxing city when Cheyanne exists?

Looks like we’re going to find out, unless he can be denaturalized and deported.

They should move out also:

Great Restaurants - good communities and 43% less expensive in cost of living.

Dallas is closer to comparable in size - it is also where quite a few NY'rs have moved to

It's a 3 hour flight DFW to JFK all those 'amenities' are entertainment - not a quality of life issue.

Think about it - the cost of living is 39% less - save those money hungry people 1.6 million a year - that's a whole lot of weekend or evening trips.

Dallas proper is still 1/6 the size

It's a 3 hour flight DFW to JFK all those 'amenities' are entertainment - not a quality of life issue.

What are you talking about? Entertainment is an amenity.

It's 3.5hr to NYC and over 4 on the way back, plus at least 3 hours of commuting+airport time each way.

That's not a quick jaunt to catch dinner and a show. That's a full day of travel in each direction.

Think about it - the cost of living is 39% less - save those money hungry people 1.6 million a year - that's a whole lot of weekend or evening trips.
And again, many of the jobs in LCOL areas pay less, too. Many don't even exist.
