  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Even if (more likely "when") Momdani becomes NYC Mayor studies show the richest New Yorkers will stay

Imagine having $25 million in salary (i.e. not capital gains) in a single year to make that even a possibility.
That number would be 5,000,000.00 -

Where does the right to penalize them come from?

For over a decade, New York has been among the states with the highest numbers of residents leaving. But while for years there was a balance between the numbers of those moving out of New York and those moving in, last year 56 percent of recorded moves were headed out of the state, according to a new report by national mover Atlas Van Lines.
While the high cost of living has been driving residents out of New York, their exodus could make the state more affordable in the near future, according to Griffin.
"In years past, as we saw in 2023, New York had the fourth highest cost of living in the U.S., with residents spending nearly $50k per year in housing, healthcare, taxes, food, and transportation," he told Newsweek.
"However, 2025 could mark a turning point for residents as they finally decide to relocate due to unsustainable living prices," Griffin added. The latest report from the National Association of Realtors corroborates this thesis, Griffin said.
It's not just the wealthy.

Why on earth would I want to live in a city where the cost of living and doing business is among the highest in the nation, when I can move to another place and just take my jet in when I feel like it?

Does not make sense.

It looked lie it was being re-stated to fit a certain thought process....

on top of.....

New York City has a local income tax rate that ranges from 3.078% to 3.876%,

and:

Now add the "only 2%" to that - it becomes 16.17%

Then add the Federal

In 2025, the federal income tax brackets will be as follows: for single filers, the rates are 10% on income up to $11,925, 12% on income from $11,926 to $48,475, and so on, with the highest rate of 37% applying to income over $626,350. For married couples filing jointly, the rates start at 10% on income up to $23,850 and reach 37% for income over $751,600.

Imagine - $53.00 of every $100.00 going to the government.
Oh no, Mr. Bill.

Here is the rub - It is their money - not ours to confiscate through draconian taxes aimed solely at them because of their success.
Here’s my question: Why do you care what some rich person in NYC has to pay in taxes?

How does that affect you?

From what we have seen in California, it is the middle class who will flee.
Why would Mamdani’s election drive away the middle class? They’re the ones his policies are specifically aimed to help who can’t make it in NYC because of how things are currently. They’re the ones who would mostly be electing him too.

yeah, they have lots of money - let's just ignore who owns the finances -
Yes, I’m sure they’re all going to go Galt taking up residence in Cheyanne and the surrounding region.

Yeah that’s exactly what Mamdani is trying to address. It’s no wonder he’s doing so well in the race.

It is called common sense and to an extent - empathy.

It affects me because I have a conscience. I believe in fairness and equity.

I don't - do you lose any sleep thinking how much the government can squeeze out of a person to fill it's coffers?

Once upon a time, before he went full I got mine why didn’t you, Dave Ramsey called the higher capital gain tax bracket as aspirational. Something along the lines of yes you’re paying whatever percent more but you have to be earning <insert large amount here> for that to happen, you’re killing it!

Oh come on now. You really expect me to believe you feel bad for the poor disadvantaged multi millionaires and billionaires in NYC? How about for the middle class that can barely get by?

You sound very concerned for them.

Do you think rich NYC millionaires spend much time thinking about you and how you’ll get by?

do you lose any sleep thinking how much the government can squeeze out of a person to fill its coffers?
No, I worry about myself and my own.
