  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Made upgrades to the Whitehouse? Particularly for his own benefit becauae he wanted to play basketball?

I understand he made modifications to the existing tennis court to facilitate a basketball court....with his own money (conflicting information on this point...I'm fine either way as one basketball court equates to a couple rounds of golf in Mar-a-lago). So, to answer your question, no, I doubt I made the "same" protest when he did that because there is nothing there to object to.

You just hate it because Trump is doing it. This is a nice upgrade to the people's house for working with other countries.

...and now we're back to you questioning motive as an argument.

Obama did a lot of remodeling as well. For his own and Michelle's benefit.

A lot? Do tell.

Would that he should show respect for the office he holds and the constitution he has sworn to uphold.

And this isn't like I'm taking a passing interest in some failed developer who has happened to get people to vote him into office. I've been following US politics since JFK. And this surely doesn't come as a surprise to you that what this man does often has a direct affect on my country and me on me personally. So these schoolyard level whinges like 'Hey, go hug a kangaroo' deserve to stay in the schoolyard where they belong.

Let's face it, taking afront when someone points out that Trump lies constantly and is a disgrace to the office of POTUS when almost everything he does is confirmation of those facts is plainly excusing what he does.

This business of the East Wing is a sideshow. His petty use of tariffs, his blatant disregard of freedom of speech, his quotas on illegal immigrants, his complete disregard for human life in executing boat loads of people...the list goes on and on and on.

The East Wing and his gold plated ballroom? That's a little light relief, my friend. What he's doing to the reputation of your country should concern you. That it doesn't concern you and so many others is of even greater concern.
Let me start by offering, in all seriousness and friendliness, a forum usage tip, since this has happened with you before. When replying to a post in a relatively lengthy thread, you don' t have to read every post in the thread, but you should scan the thread's pages to look for previous posts made by the poster you're replying to. (Remember, it's called a thread for a reason.) It's fairly quick and easy to do given that we all have different colorful avatars of one kind or another. That way, you won't risk looking foolish by making a point which has already been solidly debunked.

Your postings impressed me so much I was inspired to do something I may or may not have ever done before. While having my morning coffee, I decided to multitask and write a book, just for you. No worries mate, as books go, it's very short, and I've made every effort to keep the Latin and the technical jargon down to a minimum. Also, please forgive any grammatical errors as my proofreader is presently in county jail. Enjoy.

ON THE NATURE OF SPACE, WORDS, AND TRUMP'S ETERNAL RULE

An Examination Of Why Bradskii, The News Media, And The Entire Left Are Wrong About The East Wing

---------------------

Dedicated to Bradskii

---------------------
Foreword

There's a perplexing question which entered into the human condition around the time of the year of our Lord 2015 - do members of the Trump hating industrial complex actually believe their own lies that they pass amongst each other and the world at large, or do they just pretend to? As of 2025, the world's finest cognitive scientists are stumped by this question. Unfortunately I also have no answer to that question in general, but I think I can answer it sometimes in particular cases. In your case, Mr. Bradskii, I think you're a True Believer. I'll insult you by complimenting you - you come across as a very sincere man.

Preface

Forgive me if what I'm about to say here comes across as condescending, but by not knowing the meaning of the word "replace" (As I said, I think you're sincere. We're both older gentlemen, and perhaps you've forgotten the meaning), you've left me no choice. I have to play the hand you dealt me. By not knowing the meaning of the word "replace", and by participating in this thread to demonstrate that fact by parroting the nonsense of others, you've painted yourself into this corner.

If I'm trying to teach a child how to ride a bicycle, and he's not "getting it", I may have to make the process simpler and easier by attaching training wheels. Here's your wheels -

Chapter The First

At around 8 to 12 months of age, young humans learn about object permanence. Between the ages of 2 to 3 years, children learn the concept that two physical objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time. At some point around here, as their vocabulary is growing, English speaking children will indubitability learn the meaning of a very basic, common and useful word - "replace". I won't delve into the linguistics involved, but suffice to say that, if all is going well, i.e., in the absence of any brain injury or organic brain disease, or functional brain disease such as may be incurred from watching MSNBC or TikTok, the child will come to mentally associate the meaning of the word "replace" with the physics concept that two physical structures cannot exist in the same space at the same time. At the quantum level, this concept is expressed by the Pauli Exclusion Principle. In our much more relatable macro world, the concept is referred to as either the Impenetrability of Matter, or Spatial Exclusion. But it's important to note that no child needs any training in physics whatsoever to fully grasp this very important concept, because, res ipsa loquitur.

In July, in the very first announcement regarding plans for the east wing, the White House released a press statement which said they were going "...to replace the current East Wing". [Exact words. Emphasis added.]

There was no lie.

Chapter The Second

The day the demolition began, King Trump posted this: "Completely separate from the White House itself, the East Wing is being fully modernized..." So when King Trump made the comment about not touching the "existing building", all logical, thinking people readily deduced that he was obviously referring the White House itself, not the wing which he announced months earlier was going to be replaced. But the Left saw a chance to do what it loves and lives to do - pounce on nothing as if it were a windmill needing to be tilted at. Would you nitpick over words this way with your wife? No, you'd only do it to someone for whom you have irrational hatred.

Is King Trump sometimes inarticulate? Yes, but in the recent past Australia had a king who spoke with a stammer, and is considered to have been a good king. No king is perfect.

There was no lie.

Chapter The Third

When I advised you to relax in my previous book post, I meant it, and it was for your own good. You need to get used to this. King Trump is going to be your King forever. At no cost to the taxpayer, King Trump's consciousness has been uploaded to a secure server (a big, beautiful golden server, greatest server in history). Some other talented folks have created a hologram of King Trump (yes of course, big, beautiful, etc.). It's him, except now he's even slightly more handsome and has larger fingers. His rule will last throughout the millennia! You will have to get used to winning, to relative peace and prosperity, and many, many more big beautiful ballrooms.

More good news - when Australia becomes an American state, you and I will be fellow countrymen! Don't worry, your culture will remain intact, we won't be changing your tucker or your footy. You'll just have an overabundance of big ballrooms so you can have...(I'm thinking of a certain AC/DC song, but I probably ought not go there). There may need to be charges lain against that one bloke with the criminal dance moves, though.

THE END

----------------

Your welcome. Now go! Seize the day!

I don’t think I’ve ever had to write a book defending Obama’s actions. It’s amazing to me the lengths some will go to explain away and defend this president. His own lawyers won’t even work this hard and they get paid to defend him.

That's because conservatives know the meanings of common two-syllable words.

Yeah but I’m not just talking about this one particular case. Just in general, y’all love to stick up for this guy. Day in day out, you’re here explaining the president’s actions better than even he bothers to explain himself.

It’s just kinda weird to me.

Odd, I thought conservatives were in favor of smaller government. From what I understand, Republican's found FDR's expansion of the White House (East wing) during WW2 to be wasteful.

You make a valid point. I've tried explaining his words before. It would be nice if he talked more good, but it is what it is. A wise man, especially one in a position of power, should carefully consider his words (like Leonidas, lol). Maybe he's one of these people with a "fast brain" and words often come out without being considered.

With all the sound and fury he generates by speaking oddly, after 4 1/2 years in power he's shown that he couldn't care less about the fury. It's all just noise, and he knows it, or else he would have changed. I do like that about him.

I heard an interesting take on Trump, FDR and the east wing a couple days ago. I can't link the video because of profanity, but if you're interested you can put the letter "y" at the beginning of the below link:

If they wanted an equivalent, Trump could have made a "Les Nesman" ballroom with some tape.

View attachment 372148

BTW, I have that desk and I am sitting at it right now.
Oh man, I had that desk until a few years ago.

At least this one will be long lasting great benefit for governance. And its not paid for by the taxpayer.
Not that I really care that much about this East Wing project, but it's wildly disingenuous to pretend as if Obama's and Trump's efforts on this front are remotely comparably. Obama painted some lines on a tennis court, did some interior decorating, and presided over a renovation project that was kicked off and funded before he was even elected.

Trump, OTOH, knocked down the entire eastern third of the building.

Same with me. Thing was as heavy as compact car.
Oh, mine wasn’t too bad. More awkward than heavy. It was big enough though that I cut up my knuckles a few times moving it in and out of tiny apartments and basements.

Ev3ryone knows what Obama did to remodel the Whitehouse. 376 million worth of taxpayer money. Which included his basketball court. They wanted to upgrade and modernize. And the media gushed over it. How wonderful. No they didn't knock down an old building.

I didn't really care all that much about it.
Now Trump is doing something that will benefit for decades to come. Not benefit him, because it won't be completed until hes gone from my understanding. It will benefit future governance. And its not costing taxpayers anything. Its going to match the architecture of the Whitehouse. FDR built the original. He wanted a space for his own benefit. This new building will also be a part of history, a long lasting one. I don't understand why this is such a big deal to pregressives. I can only think it has to do with the Trump hate. The man can do nothing good in their eyes. Its a bit boring now. This will be a nice building and a much needed upgrade.

I actually didn't mind that because, as a President, he was a truly great basketball player. As a black guy, meh, just mediocre.

Let me start...
Well, that was a complete waste of your time. I don't need your lengthy opinions on the matter when I have the actual facts.

But you are free to interpret all the facts about Trump in any way you choose that doesn't make him out to be the person we all know he is.

Yet again, it's beyond my comprehension why so many people do that.

It killed some time. It was fun. Some people are gamers, some people play golf. I enjoy writing.

Oh kewl, now you have actual facts? Lay them on me. I have the facts of physics on my side. ;)

Irrelevant, it was taxpayer dollars. It doesn't matter who approved it. That was rhe point. Taxpayer dollars vs non-taxpayer dollars. Everyone knows the difference.

It does matter if you want to point to Obama as having been the one who initiated it.

Congress approved that funding in 2008.

What are you talking about? Obama didn't do that? Were all the newspapers and media lying about it?
It does matter if you want to point to Obama as having been the one who initiated it.
No it doesn't because he and Michelle were the ones who spent the money and did the remodeling. Certainly you are denying that. Why are you fighting that so hard?

Like I said, I don't really care if he dis or didn't. Thats not the point I was making. The point was he did it on taxpayer money and no one on the left or in the media gave a clap.

But when Trump does with private funds suddenly the left and the media cares deeply and wants to criticize it. Its patently ridiculous.

Obama did it, I don't care, it probably needed to be done.

Trump is doing it, I don't care, it sounds like it needed to be done. AND he's not using taxpayer money to do it.
